Default Clearing over vinyl????

I will be using a base/clear urethane system to paint my Yamaha G8. My question is if I put 3m grade vinyl racing stripes can I clear over them???

Do a small test on another item. Some vinyls will accept clears where others will curl up

More than likely you will be fine but it would be best to test. Honestly though If your painting just pull the vinyl off and paint the stripes on.

Think I will do a test and see. I know on my bike I used to have the vinyl was cleared over on the tank so I was just wondering.

You can clear over the vinyl pinstripes just make sure all the edges are stuck down. When applying the first coat put on a light coat and let it tack up for about a half an hour then proceed from there. If you really lay down a thick coat it can sometimes get under and it and lift it.

Very glad I read this thread. I was undecided whether the pin striping I plan on doing was going under or over the clear. Thanks Master!!! Also thinking about painting the striping but that seems to be a lot of masking first.
