Water based paints (Auto-Air)
Has anyone out there had any experience with water based automotive paints by Auto-Air colors. I've painted with solvent based, on and off for years, but they say water base is the future. It also requires less protective equipment. I know it also requires traditional clears to seal the job. Auto-Air says all you have to do to prep a cart is scuff the surface and add adhesion promoter and it will stick fine. I know there's people out there using it. Any help or experience is greatly appreciated.

Re: Water based paints (Auto-Air)
I have had a little experience, on sheet metal. Wow! it is the new wave of the future. The man at the paint shop told me that it "will not" fade like the oil based paints do. It looks like he was right too. Our Red Emron paint faded to Pink! This paint is on train cars that sit out in the sun daily. We will find out more as time tells........
Oh, ours is not the Auto brand you mentioned and we do not go over it with clear, and it's very nice. We got it from the Sherwin Williams paint store when they sold out to the new owners. Sorry, I don't know the new name right off. |
