Help! Paint and clear coat question.
Just finished painting. Here were the steps. Sanded with 600 (scuffed). Then used adhesion promotor, next primed, then painted with gloss. All with spray can. Very happy with results.
Here is the question, do I go straight to clear coat or wet sand with 1500 then 2000, then clear coat? I am looking for shiny (glossy) and smooth surface. Thank you so much, Jeff |

Re: Help! Paint and clear coat question.
you can go straight to clear coat as long as you don't have a bunch of debris in the color coat. If you let it sit more than a day though I would suggest either putting another coat of color on first then clear, or scuffing it lightly with some gray scotchbrite before you clear. You could wet sand it with 600 or higher if you want but the scotchbrite is much much easier.

Thank you so much! I have put so much work in only to be stumped by this question. Everything you said makes complete sense! Thanks again Master66!

Don't forget the tack cloth if it's being done outside of a paint booth. Something else I learned from the Master66. You don't want dust and dirt under the paint.

Re: Help! Paint and clear coat question.
Another little trick is to lightly wet the floor down. This will help keep any dust flying around stuck to the floor when it hits. Now don't make it like a lake in there because if water splashes up on you're fresh clear you're screwed, just a layer of water. Hope the advice isn't to late and happy painting.

Re: Help! Paint and clear coat question.
okay, major problem. After applying clear coats, paint/coating started peeling up in many spots... What did I do? Or at least what should I do from here? My guess is to let it dry, sand in down, and start process over in those spots.
I knew things were going to well... Hahha ha. I posted my progress under my pictures. Jeff |

Re: Help! Paint and clear coat question.
Okay, I just checked the peeling, and its going all the way to the primer. I've let this paint sit for 5 days, and used clear coat for enamel. Ugghh. Yes, I guess, I am going to have to sand those spots all the way down again, and start process in those areas. Will take pictures of the problem for all to see...and I guess laugh, cause that's all I can do at this point.
