Default How to paint white steel wheels black

i have a set of 12inch white steel wheels i wanna paint black. they look awfully shiny i just dont want them to blister the paint i put on. Has anybody ever painted these. What is the best paint to use. Also hows the best way to tape around the tire as they are already mounted i hate to break them down.

You need to sand them down first, so that the paint will stick. I didn't use tape when I painted a set of my steelies. The black paint on the tires actually gives them a nice shine.

You can use maroon colored scotch brite to scuff them up, all you need to do is rempove the gloss on the white. Scotch brite is a little easier than sandpaper because it is more flexible. After that some wax and grease remover dry then paint. Start with a light fog coat first and let dry, then get heavier as the coats go on letting dry between each coat. Rims can be tricky to paint because of all of the contaminents on them but if you go with the fog coats to start you can beat most comntaminents.
