Default High Gloss paint over Fusion?

We want to do a paint job on our Yamaha G14. After the prep, we were going to spray on Krylon Fusion for plastic paint. Probem is, my wife doesn;t like any of their color choices, so I'm wondering if I should use the Fusion for a base coat ( to bond with the plastic) then spray a high gloss enamel over that in a color she likes. Any thoughts?

fuzion is picky paint.. it probably won't work.. it's not really meant to have anything shot over it... even clear coat acts "ify" with it. you're best best is if you're going to use rattle can... scuff the plastics with a red scotebrite and some comet (powder cleaner)... wash it off real well then let dry.... tack it off with a tackrag.... shoot some bullydog adhesion promoter... let dry for 2-3 mins.... shoot another layer and sit for 2-3 mins.... shoot a final medium wet coat and let it sit for 15-20 mins....

letting it sit IS important..... once that's done you can shoot a primer over it OR go ahead and shoot your basecoat.. if you want to stay cheap you can use some rattle can duplicolor automotive enamel..... do 2-3 coats letting it sit the recommended time between coats.. then you can clear coat it for some protection and a nice gloss shine

once you shoot the basecoat... you have to wait 2 weeks before you can wetsand (from what i've read from other ppl who use rattle can) wet sand it with some 800 grit sandpaper... water with a little dishsoap in the water to make the sandpaper glide better over the surface....

if you do NOT want to sand it... you can shoot the basecoat... wait the correct amount of time.. then clear coat it 2-3 times and be finished.

krylon fuzion is OKAY but it's very picky on topcoating and if you dont top coat it... it's dull

Evlls1,

I took your advice almost to the letter. 3 coats of Bulldog Adhesion Promoter, 5 coats of gloss metallic copper enamel, 3 coats of enamel clear coat (the last coat is drying as I type this) and it looks great. I will submit some pics, when I get it all back together. Thanks again for the advice.

P.S. you didn't mention that the bulldog stuff smells to high heaven.

I'm Painting My Cart Using Krylon Fusion Paint For Plastic And Will Agree That The Difficulty I'm Having Is The Clear Coat. I Can't Seem To Get It To Look The Way I Want To. But The Paint Did A Good Job Of Covering...prep...prep....prep...prep...
