Default rattle can or no-rattle can

Hello all,

I want to paint my cart today.

I have never painted a cart/car/boat/etc before.

I do have a Husky pneumatic paint spray gun. Never used it.

My question is, how hard is the pneumatic gun to use well? Am I better off just getting 4 or 5 rattle cans and painting the cart? The cart is a 1985 EZGO, metal body cart.

I need to get the paint off of it first, so off to depot to get some sandpaper and maybe the rattle cans... Opinions are appreciated.

Thanks,
Bronsonj

OK, so I am a little anxious... I went and bought rattle can primer and paint.

If it doesn't rain, I will have a blue cart by tonight!

Get a handle that attaches to the can. Way easier on the finger. Post pics when done.

I did get the handle thing. Figured for $6 was worth it. Never used one of those before, but it looks like a good idea.

I got 3 cans of primer, 4 cans of paint. 120 for the rough sand, 220 for the fine. I'm not doing a show cart, so I am hoping 220 is fine enough... We'll see. I did find another thread that said it takes 6 rattle cans for a cart... But I didn't see that until after I got back from HD. So I may have half of a blue cart!

I sanded it with 120 then 220. Grabbed the primer and laid 2 coats with one can on the front cowl. Then let is sit for a bit and did 1.5 coats with one can of color.

A word of caution, the grip thing that attaches to the spray can will rotate... I set it down after the first coat of primer. Picked it up for the second and it rotated so the spray hit inside the gripper then threw big globs of primer onto the cart.... I had to clean and resand the area. Gripper is good, but just know to look at the orientation of the can every time you grab it.

If I stay with this color, the stripes will go away on the next coat. But I may switch to black after all. This blue isn't dark enough I don't think.

Spray the next coat with vertical sweeps, that will help hide the 'Tiger Stripes'.

You don't like blue you could paint it camo. Can't mess up camo paint jobs.
Just get flat colors.
Like black, brown, and green. For woodland.
Dark blue, light blue, and black for urban camo.
And dark brown, light brown, and off white for desert camo.
Or you could do dark grey and a light grey and white for a winter or snow camo.
Your in Florida you could use the palm leafs, and tree leafs I hear they make cool patterns. Or just get real creative, or wild. Fling colors, splatter the paint, use gloss and flat colors. Use reds and grays and blacks..
(Just options, and thoughts)

Thanks all.

I did a second coat yesterday. It was still wet when I had to roll it into the garage, so I didn't get a photo of it. The stripes in the front are lessened and the stripes on the front sides are almost completely gone. Thanks AACorp.

I am guessing coat #3 will get rid of them entirely. I think I will get the front painted with the blue, then decide if I like that or if I am going with something else.
