Plasti Dip Pearl project begins...!
So i started dipping the cart today. Only had time for the front cowl. I did a black base with a clear mixed with C2 Chameleon pearl (green-yellow-blue-purple). But its seems very muted. Looked great when it was wet, but kinda lost its vib when it dried. I did about 4 coats of black and 4 coats of the pearl.
I have a theory in that because the cowl is rounded in shape that there isnt enough surface to reflect the light. Because when i crouch down and get level with the flat surface near the bumper it has alot more effect. I guess that question will be answered when i do the body since its almost all flat surfaces. Black base coat: http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...ps7b0625ed.jpg Here is a pic after about 3 coats when it was still wet: http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...psc321532a.jpg www.youtube.com/embed/Wd9jIYheO64 Ill post some updates once i get the body done. |

Though i will admit i peeled the hood today, as i wasnt in love with my choice of pearl. It was just too light colored... im doing the C7 color now, basically the same just all around darker with more punch to it. I just use a cheap $39 HVLP automotoive spary gun from TCP Global. with a 1.8 nozzel ( i think its the G6600 model?) and a 30 gallon homeowner style air compressor. Its the only spary gun i could find that only needs about 5cfm. To be honest it works great! Dont think i could do a car with this compressor, but golf cart no problem as its running 50% of the time im spraying. The one nice thing about automotive type spray guns is they are easier to clean and typically all metal. Then electric sprayers always seem to break down and clog up, i guess the benefit is they put down more product faster. |
