Default Sanded clear coat and looks dull

Hi guys. Thanks for all the info that has been posted. I decided to strip down a 2001 ez go and repaint it. I used a two stage DuPont paint with 3 base coats and 3 clear coats. When I finished the clear (after16 hrs), I sanded the orange peel with 1000 then 1500. I compounded, polished, and wax but now it looks a little dull and I can still see some fine scratches. Does anyone have any recommendation to resolve this? Thanks!!!

Wet sand with 2000 paper then polish.

so after sanding with 2,000 you will need to use a buffer with cutting compound to get rid of the fine scratches. You will not be able to remove them by hand polishing with compound, that is why it is dull. Also my advice is to get some wax and grease remover and remove the wax that you put on there. I always tell people never to wax a paint job until at least a month after painting. Believe it or not it can take that long for the paint to fully cure. While it is curing it will expend "gases" in lamens terms, and the wax can prevent that from happening and can bubble your paint. Happy buffing

Hey that is what we are here for.

Hey Loom: New Guy said he would come to your house and hand polish it out for you so you are all good. You do have to supply the beer though.

HAHAHA, if beer is all i need then ya'll come over. MASTER- thanks for being so helpful on this forum. Unfortunately, i screwed it all up today. I wet sanded with 2000 and still wasnt happy. So i sanded with 1000 and sprayed some wax and grease remover then decided to respray clear coat. BOY WAS THIS A MISTAKE. The clear didnt stick and now it looks like crap. Guess i'll have to resand down and start over from step one.

Uh oh. You should be able to wet sand the product you just put on with 600 grit down to the previous hardened clear. That should have been dry enough to withstand the wax and grease remover and new clear. It probably fish eyed and possibly crinkled didn't it?
The wax and grease remover typically comes in a can and you wipe it on sparingly with one rag and wipe it off with a dry rag until it is dry. You never want to put a bunch of wax and grease on and let it air dry as this will add a contaminant before you are going to spray. I hate to say it but that is how you learn, by making mistakes and having to sand it off. Trust me we have all done something like this.

X2! I think I've spent more money on the paint that I've sanded off than on the paint that has stayed on!
