Default So, What Else Can You Do With A VC440?

How about a custom 440cc, 2x2, full-auto and full-suspension offroad bike?

I've been building it in two phases.

Phase I (this phase is just completed): Rear-wheeldrive only. Intent is to run it like this for awhile to smoke out any bugs. When I am satisfied, I will move into the next phase.

Phase II: Hook up the front drive. This will make the bike a true 2x2. With both wheels pulling, full-auto tranny and big torque from the 440, this bike ought to be competitive in the deep sand of hare scrambles here in Florida. My goal is to race it.

I have never seen anything like that before!

I'd go full monty on the engine:

1. High comp piston
2. Mill head .075"
3. Port and polish heads
4. Billet roller rockers
5. Billet rod
6. Chromo pushrods
7. VC Cam
8. 32mm CV carb

You're looking at about $1300 or so.

It reminds me of the Rokon Trail-Breaker that's built in New Hampshire.

Definitely looks like a trailbreaker. If i remember correctly the front wheel is actually geared a little different than the back to make turning easier. This is one cool project you have here!

I have been wanting to do a off-road chopper for sometime now. Get a 200m 3 wheeler and put a swing arm on it.

I did this a few years back,... 80cc frame, lawn mower rearend, 5 hp briggs

I built the engine to a modest state of tune. At this point all I really need is the cam, but that will wait until I install a billet rod.

Yup, I have 3 Rokon Trailbreakers. Have been a Rokon guy since the 70's. My first Rokon, however, was their race bike, the RTII-340, which is no longer available. It was a conventional dirt bike, but with CVT. With that auto tranny and a tunable launch speed it was a holeshot king. Then I got into the 2-wheeldrive Trailbreakers, including building a hot-rodded 4-stroke and two hot-rodded 2-strokes. Still, over the years I kept asking myself the question, "How could I build a modern Rokon?" That required real power, a CVT, 2x2 and full-suspension (something a Trailbreaker doesn't have).

So, when I finish the build on this 440, its power should come close to matching the power of the 340cc 2-stroke in my RTII-340 but have double the torque.

Thanks. Actually, on a Trailbreaker the gearing is exactly the same front to rear. What makes turning easier is the limited slip in the driveshaft...it allows the front wheel to roll faster in turns (because in a turn, the front wheels scribe a wider radius than does the rear tire).

This 440 bike is WAY faster, has much more suspension, is fully automatic, electric-start, and when complete will be 2-wheeldrive.
