Adding a choke cable to a clone
I stumbled upon this while I was cleaning out my garage. I had intended to use it on my Yamaha g2 with a predator 420 conversion. I sold the cart before getting around to install it. Maybe it could help out anyone trying to find a way to set up a choke lever.

Re: Adding a choke cable to a clone
I found the cable I was going to use at tractor supply 72in so length won't be a factor I think it was 10-15 bucks

This one is made by Arnold, and can be found at home depot, lowes, etc. It has multiple levers and such, so you might be able to piece together something that works. I figured that the throttle control would be good since it would hold its place if need be.
Right on the price, around $10-15 for the universal kit |

Re: Adding a choke cable to a clone
I cut the choke lever and drilled a hole in it, then modded it so it moved easily. Then made a bracket for the choke and throttle over the flywheel, the choke I made a reversing lever and connected the yami pull cable, put a spring on it. It works fine. I used a piece of 1/8 rod to hook to the choke lever. But this would only fit a yamaha or similar, you should be able to hook other cables to it that way though. IIRC it had a detent or something in it that makes it move hard and I smoothed it off with a stanley knife.
What I rather have done is put an outboard solenoid or car door lock actuator on it and be electric with a button or boat push key. But since I jetted the carb I hardly ever use it anyway and now want to put a CV carb on that has an electric choke inside it. Sometimes I can't win lol. |
