Need some help guys
Ok so recently i moved from the high desert of NM to the great state of Fl. before the move my G9 with the VC440 ran great with no issues, but then I moved and now its acting up (it did sit for a month). The motor will start with the choke on and idle but the second I take the choke off it surges and then dies. I can tell its running super rich because the black smoke puffs right before it dies and black plug but to me it makes no sense going from high altitude to sea level?.. I did put fresh fuel in, cleaned the carb and double checked the valve lash. Any input would be great guys!

Re: Need some help guys
Update: Did a compression test and read 60psi.... Pretty low, so I put some oil in the spark plug hole and took another reading. Still 60psi. So my question to you guys is, are my valves leaking and do I need to replace them?

Re: Need some help guys
When you take compression readings on these clones the compression release is engaged and you will not get a accurate reading. I would not change valves yet.
I would take valve cover off and crank with no spark plug and observe valve action to insure you don't have a sticking valve. If your carburetor pilot jet o rings are damaged, that would give you a rich mixture at idle. Make sure needle valve and seat are clean, and your air cleaner is clean. |

Air cleaner is new and fairly clean. Watched the valves and didn't see any "sticking," so i took another look at the carb. Looks pretty clean and removed the pilot jet. Rings look good, one on top on bottom. but is it suppsoed to have a string thing going through it.

Re: Need some help guys
nope, not a string,. Is that piece brass metal? If it is, your sleeve in your pilot jet is dislocated and will puke fuel. If its a string, remove it and run a fine wire thru your pilot jet so its open, requires a small electrical wire strand, or the welders nozzle smallest cleaning tip. Be sure you don't have a vacuum leak. When in nm, did you re-jet for high altitude, if so ,need to go back to stock jet.

That shouldn't be there, and would explain why your engine cuts out and won't stay running, use a real fine piece of wire to clean out the jet

Re: Need some help guys
Alright cleaned out what looked like left over from extrusion. I think during the move it may have wiggled into the jet. I have it back on the cart and i am looking for my lil piece of paper that has the number of turns for the needle. In case I cant find it, anyone what suggest a starting point

Re: Need some help guys
idle mixture screw set at 2-1/2 turns out for starting point, then you will need to set idle speed after running.
