pulled the trigger today
Well, I decided to check out Vegas Carts website (again) and saw that they were having a Black Friday weekend sale. I wasn't quite ready for the engine swap but when opportunity knocks........ you got to answer the door. It will be going into a lifted G2 so if anyone has any advice let me know.

Re: pulled the trigger today
Take your time. Get a new clutch, comet 780. Don't cut your crankshaft. New belt. Make sure your secondary is good to go. Get the adjustable engine mount, makes the job easy. Use a good muffler, that little engine is LOUD!

Re: pulled the trigger today
Thanks all. Slonomo, I've read all your posts including your review of vegas carts and it helped with my decision to purchase their engine and kit. The exhaust noise level is somewhat of a concern, seams that the perfect muffler has not been found yet. I've got a motorcycle salvage yard in my town, maybe I can find something that will work.

Re: pulled the trigger today
Got my engine and conversion kit last Saturday. Unfortunately I cant install it till after Christmas. I am Trying to get all my other parts together so that I can install it with a minimum of down time. I ordered a relay switch so it will ground out after releasing the gas pedal. I got the header and RLV muffler from VC but am having second thoughts about using it. I'm thinking of either using a Walker 22769 but also need a spark arrestor to be able to ride in the national forest. I was thinking of adding a supertrap disc muffler after the Walker. I'm hoping the Walker wont be too loud and I believe the supertrap is a fairly free flowing spark arrestor. Does this sound alright or should I try to find a dirt bike/quad muffler for it? Would I have to re jet the carb? Also does anybody have any thoughts about using a mikuni fuel pump for a gokart instead of the stock G2 pump so I don't have to run a return line.

Re: pulled the trigger today
It won't matter what fuel pump you use because the clone carbs are designed for gravity flow and fuel pumps have too much pressure. I've seen some guys use a low pressure electric, but I can't attest for how well they work. The easy fix is the return fuel line. Just use one size smaller line for it, that will maintain some pressure in the feed line.
For the muffler, I'd use a "factory" atv muffler that has the spark arrestor installed. I used a Yamaha Raptor 660 muffler, it sounded great, like a quad, and boosted low end torque. I'm sure I lost a little top end power vs. the open muffler, but it was way quieter and felt like it didn't give up any power low and mid range. The problem is the size. If you can figure a way to fit it, go this route, it will solve all your issues in noise areas and areas needing the spark arrestor. |

Re: pulled the trigger today
i fought the whole fuel pump crap for quite some time .. def if your going to go pulse use this .. http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/171050995624?lpid=82
is for 18hp kohler works everytime ..also cheap if you need to replace it!.. i tried using this and it would not supply enough pressure without having to blow air in the fuel line everytime.. http://www.powersportsuperstore.com/...tm?Click=35177 ^wouldnt even waste my time using this even if someone gave it to me.. just my 2 cents . |

Re: pulled the trigger today
Thanks Slonomo, I just happen to have a muffler off my 660 Raptor, I'll see if I can make it work.
Thanks Natew121 for the advice on the Kohler fuel pump. Did you have to run a return line for it? |
