Default New Clone fuel problem?

Just bought from Vegas Carts new 460 clone. Came with carb and head removed, normal way to ship I guess. Anyway I cant get it to keep running. Runs for about 3 seconds shuts down. Sits for a minute restarts shuts down again. Wont restart till you wait a bit even with choke on. So I go through all the obvious stuff. Pull the gas line off carb try to start it pumps gas. Doesnt seem like a lot so I throw another good fuel pump in. Still pumping gas. I change the inline fuel filter same problem. Remove carb, float is opening and shutting as it should no jets clogged. I have so very little time for a while so I was wondering if anybody had this problem and can get me to the right fix without my usual rather extensive troubleshooting methods. It is one of the carbs that have an on off lever on it. I also removed the nut on the bottom to see if the bowl had gas in it and it does. I was wondering is it possible its not getting enough fuel when it starts to run then konks out? Plug is never fouled. Could it be not enough gas after it starts running. Even when it starts putting the choke on wont keep it running.

I'd give Geoff a holler at VC. Sounds like it could be something simple. If you pull the bolt on the bottom of the bowl will it continue to pour gas or does it stop? Should continue. Is there a PCV tube that goes from the block to the intake?

Is the gas tank venting? Remove the gas cap and try to run it again.

Check your valve clearance. At TDC it should be .004" intake and .005"-.006" exhaust. Also check to make sure the timing key didn't shear. Is the fuel valve in the "on" position? Hope you get it worked out.

Also note that I tried the return line into tank bottom and my clone would not run.Moved return line into top of tank and it ran fine.

Bottom of tank will have too much pressure.

Good idea I didnt see if the bowl had gas when trying to run it. Ill check the valve clearances too. I dont have a return fuel line. My other cart has a clone and runs fine with no return line. I have a question for Vinney. I dont understand the PCV line to intake statement. I have the clone carb manifold intake spout that connects to the fuel pump. Is that what you mean? The valve cover has a vent and tube on it. Do I need a return fuel line?

When the clone I did overflowed with a intake pulse the gas came out the overflow, which is in the intake spacer it comes out the bottom of it. It only did it at idle. Otherwise I'd say I have had a plugged idle jet do that on a lawn engine it would only run at about 1/4 plus throttle or it would quit. It can be hard to get a cold engine to run at open throttle so very hard to get going had to choke it a lot.

Thanks sho Ill take a look. I went on the assumption jets were not plugged because I only ran the cart about 5 minutes before I put it away. Thought it was ok didnt drive it for a week and now it wont start. Get tunnel vision once in a while when everythings new.
