Default Starting the VC460 G2 build

I received my VC460 last month and after the holidays and all the honey do's the little woman went out of town. I'm sure you can all appreciate what that means....tinker time. First things first I got up early and put the rub on the ribs. Next I pulled the old gutless yamaha motor and cleaned up the grease mess that was under the engine.

I had ordered new motor mounts from VC, and was glad I did. Two were broken and the two that were not were in bad shape. I'd suggest anyone doing a swap get new mounts. I had called Geoff a couple of weeks ago about the pulley and how it's mounted. He said I'm glad you called, the side with the protrusion goes next to the clutch.
Another helpful tip I learned the hard way is to put the S/G tension bar in place BEFORE you put the pulley and clutch on. Now it was time to start smoking the ribs on the traeger.
I thought you could attach the S/G before installation but if you do you you can't get to the bolts to adjust the engine on the plate. Luckily I figured that out before attaching it to the mounting bracket.
Got the engine in the cart and am in the process of lining up the drive belt. I noticed that the throttle cable (that was still attached to the transmission) won't reach the the throttle bracket on the 460. If there are any G2/ G9 owners out there what did you do? I'm thinking I'll have to unhook the first cable from the tranny and attach it to the 460 throttle bracket

See clone throttle in this clone section if you want to use cable from tranny. I did it this way on my g14 which looks very much like your set up.Many others went direct.I liked the idea of having return spings in several areas, more so with the extra power of the clone. Also the pedal feel of stocker.Lastly besides my lever bracket all stock parts are still in use.

Finished installing the VC460 today and took it for a cruise. The power is incredible and everything is working properly I just need to "clean up" the fuel and pulse line and find a better way of securing the throttle cable other than using a zip tie. I'd like to thank Geoff and his crew for putting up with my questions. They were very helpful. And thanks to all of you and your post especially your pictures. I spent countless hours going through all of them in preparation of the build. Now just one more question, I have a torque spring installed in the driven clutch, should I replace it with the stock spring?

Nice job! Now the real fun begins!!!

I would put the stock spring back in. That engine has enough power and torque that you don't need the low gear anymore.

Thanks Slonomo, Will the stock spring smooth out my start up? I think that torque spring is causing my cart to jump on start up.

Two things 1) I noticed after running a couple of hours the roughness on take off eased up as the drive belt wore in. 2) You might want to check if you have you throttle lever points positioned so your pedal travel is linear with your throttle plate .ie that the full open position does not occur much before the gas pedal is near the floor. The clones lever on the carb is quite small and takes very little motion to go from idle to wide open.

Most big blocks will have the same type of throttle problem. Mine still has it. Its on the list.

Also check your belt tension. If it's too loose it will be jerky on take off. Clutch alignment is also key to smooth operation.

I made a lever connecting the pedal to the carb (via cables and rod). It has a few holes in it, I adjusted it (different holes until it was right) so the carb is wide open right when the pedal hits the floor. The pedal moves about 1" at the top before the carb starts to open, so it can idle. It has a return spring on it. It works just like it did stock.

Yes a new belt will be 'sticky'. Your belt slack can change takeoff, make sure its running true (alignment of pulleys) before you blame the clutches, assuming the clutches are in good working order.

Torque spring tends to make them rev more at lower speeds, or all speeds. You don't need it with a larger engine since they have more torque. Most like the stock spring better then, but for trail use some still like it to rev more. You can also try the yamaha umax spring its between most aftermarket and the stock spring. Its for the umax utility cart and is longer and stronger than the stock one. It still can be preload adjusted like the stock one.
