Default 4 degree timing key question

I'm putting my clone back together with a 4 degree key. Since the key is now smaller than the slot in the flywheel do you just rotate the flywheel clockwise against the key and tighten it down?

Might be late on this....make sure you lap the flywheel to the crank, make sure it's super super clean, and use an impact to get it nice and tight!

For sure. I've personally seen them shear the thin key from a kick-back. Light oil and Comet does an OK job if you don't have valve grinding paste. The flywheel is massive, while the crank is light, so plenty of opportunity to shear the flimsy buggers.

Yes sir. I sheared 2 in one day! Finally someone on here gave me the lapping idea. I think torquing the flywheel on really good is big too. If you don't it can slip. I always clean the threads off with brass brush and spray them with carb cleaner, no dirt or oil on my threads!!

lol :)

Kid brought his 460 up from Detroit, said it had backfired, shot flames out the 32mm flatslide that singed the hair on his thigh, not far from actualizing Nat King Cole's Christmas Song

I made a bracket to move the pickup instead on my 420.

I've already put the flywheel on but I haven't installed the engine yet. So I'm going to pull it back off and lap it. I've got some fine grit lapping compound that I think will work.
