Default possibly a solution to covering the drive belt!..

okay guys i am on the brink of somthing good i feel like. first off i have a ez go with the gx390 . have mudded with it before without belt slip but have not gone through any deep pockets of water . while at homedepot yesterday i noticed there little utvs they sell called american sport works. well i went over to check it out and i was surprised to find out that they way there are built is very similar to my golf cart it even has the same gx390 and looks to be the same rear dana me29 trans-axle setup with diff length axles same one that i have in my cart while looking over stuff the first thing that stuck out was that the engine clutch and rear driven clutch had a plastic sealed covering over the whole deal (front /back/bottom ). and i thought well i know for a fact that i have a little more room in my engine bay and can make whatever room is needed lol that this should work!what im thinking about doing is maybe getting a measuring tape and taking some measurements at homedepot with pictures and see if my sheet metal shop in the same parking lot can make this for me if not i may buy the parts and modify to fit .

heres the parts PDF site

I've seen those at Rural King, at least the cheapie model, it's like $3999. It has a small single cyl, not the GX390, so I don't know if the part you are talking is the same on that model. It's just a plastic cover, pretty well formed to fit that application. It might be able to be modified. I have looked at other UTV's and thought the same thing, what if.....but I just don't have the need for a waterproof belt drive.

I do like your idea of a sheet metal housing, kinda like a snowmobile has. But space is tight on mine, so it would really have to be custom fit. I thought of alum diamond plate, then have it come apart in two pieces. Have tabs on the bottom piece that mounts to the swing arm with welded in threaded bungs. Remove 4 bolts and the top cover comes right off.

I've even thought of just a bottom and side splash guard, just too keep water and snow from splashing on the clutches and belt. Might as well box in in at that point though.

The Pug I have has an enclosed clutch/drive system. It's made from aluminum plate. The back plate bolts to the engine and is sealed to the differential in the back, and clutches are then installed, then the entire front is bolted all around the outside to the back plate. I've had this one in water and muck that was pretty deep and was over the clutch area. One time the water was deep enough it was over my headlights. No slipping.

So, having a cover is a plus depending on how you will use your cart. I've thought about making one for my G1 but don't think I have the room for one on it due to clearance issues.

Thats the thing with the G1. I am contemplating building another cart with a more modern frame and body as an off road machine. I would like to have a cvt cover and also a diff with a locker and low/high gear. Does your pug have low and high?

i have plenty of room for a cover plus where the exhaust is on the 390 is really close to the belts so on top of water being blocked. i need the covers because at our ranch out side of houston its wet ...really wet during some parts of the year. so i need somthing that can get through some 1-2ft deep holes. my cart is lifted 6" on 22's moving to 25s soon but it works just dont want to have to go so fast through it would like to able to creep. it will also help block heat away from the belt . im going to get some pics and measure them this weekend and try and get some built and yes ill also be adding getting some inner fenders built in sheet metal just need to get my cart put back together and drop it off
