new cc driven clutch option found!
After spending most of the afternoon researching and making phone calls I think I came up with a lower cost alternative to the secondary clutches available. I ordered a use driven for a polaris indy lite 340 snowmobile. It is a 7/8 keyed shaft so it should bolt on. Also it is 3/4" larger in diameter. This will fit and also should help a bit with the low end torque the clones lack to the v twins. It will hurt top end a bit but the clone has the rpm to make up for this. It's very tunable as well so we shall see how things go. Not to mention they are out there used for $50.

Interesting, be sure and keep us posted how it works.
I wonder if you may need a softer spring because of the lesser horsepower? |

the clutch was offered on the 340 and 250 cc snowmobiles only. they have comparable hp to a vc clone or stock smaller vanguard and am told they are easily tuned softer by lesser clocking of the spring. Fingers crossed

How much do you think you will loose from the top end, as opposed to the stock top ratio?

3/4 in is whatbthe difference in size is. I would assume 5 mph max. But it all depends how deeply the belt seats into the secondary at full shift. I am unaware of the ratio on this secondary..like I said Fingers crossed!

I mainly am excited about having a lower "first gear". My cart will be plowing snow and pulling logs a lot so that low end is important. I sold my ranger so instead of just a play toy it now has to be a work horse

Hopefully it is just as deep as the stock if not deeper.

Re: new cc driven clutch option found!
That clutch might open farther than you may think. Sleds are high rpm runners and rely on that high gear ratio to go fast, some of those smaller sleds would go pretty fast on the top end. A quick disassembly of the clutch and a measurement of the diameter fully open would give you a baseline. Or....a test drive....LOL
