Default Clone with umax spring

1 st started in yamaha section but worked so well started this thread in clone section.Installed umax spring set on B1 with new spider and spacer.WOW ,WOW.WOW,works so well I can't believe it.No more jerky starts and much smoother acceleration. Also when backing off the engine has a much better braking effect.Really high lights how well the comet 780 works with the clone. One other note secondary comes right off with the right tool.Hated spending the money but it works like a charm.

Be careful using less than B2 stock preload. With mine if I got in snow or sand and spun the tires it would bog out with a low preload setting. The umax really helps rpm at mid to lower speeds. So far my 94c seems to not need it, but it worked great with the stock G9 clutch and mine was moddified with drilled weights.

With the clone it works so much better than the old stock spring. There is not the jerky take off I thought was caused by the comet 780.It also stays engaged on decel for much smoother stops. Also during hard accel the shift over is so much more linear. With my clone it certainly does not bog down at any speed. To be truthful I had bought the umax spring a while ago and when I noticed how worn my pads were on the spider I decided to pull my secondary apart and also install the spacer in place of the snap ring.A lot of threads say not to put in something other than a stock spring in with a clone or a vanny, but I think with the umax set on B1 my cart has never felt near as good as it does now.

I can tell you stock springs wear out and lose their spring, so if yours is old its not working that well. The umax is a step up for sure, it will raise rpm at low and mid speeds, rpm usually higher at high speeds anyway so it does less there. If you trail ride, want more snap from it, umax works great. It will rev more when you drive around slow so it would not be as nice for gentle driving. It was made for utility carts hauling loads. A clone or other BB engine has a lot more torque so its is not needed as much and that is why many don't use them with BB, however it will do the same thing as it does for the stock engine and some will love that on the trail or if they want more power all the time and don't care about it revving up at part throttle and slow speeds. If you tow the umax is great to have, hill climbs and trails, its great. Golfing use or casual campground cruising...its noisier and takes more fuel. Again for stock engine on lifted cart its great, BB engine its optional depending on your use.

I might put mine back in at some point not sure, its working better now just having fun riding it around right now. Also the kevlar belt from CPP is a touch wider it will help even more, though it can make your clutch drag more for shifting. It will give you a little lower gear to start for towing and takeoffs, and its a great double cogged belt. Those are the two best mods I would recommend to anyone. I also run a cut sheave that gives a lower gear yet and can make the belt drag even more but I use pedal start anyway, the clone will hit top rpm almost instantly taking off on 22s with that setup. I put a spacer in there at the moment to see it if was causing other problems, but it is not causing the problem I have. You may be able to move your engine or shim your clutch for these issues, and that assumes you are using a stock size yami belt with your swap like I do.

No I use the wider belt from VC and with the preload set at B1 it seems to all in by 3500 rpms.

Mine worked great too until I got in the snow and it bogged out badly. I ran it all summer no problem but would bog a little in sand, in snow it was terrible. It can't sense the torque when you spin I guess. Anyway I went to a new stock spring and now B4 with the 94c, but your clutch is different too.

Don't ride in the snow but just took it out in deep sand and it worked great. And in theory with less preload the stiffer spring should = softer spring with more preload. And again this is with VC comet 780 with a mid level VC 460.
