Default Club Car CW Clone question

I know it has probably been covered but I couldn't find it. You guys running clones in your CW rotation club cars how much did you looses top end wise without high speed gears? I keep bouncing back and fourth between stoking up my FE350 and putting a clone it in. I am leaning towards running the FE350, it would be easier and faster but I keep running across good deals on 390 clones. I am running an XRT so just putting high speed gears to make up is not an option. Thanks,

I don't know, probably could figure out the difference in the ratios. I can tell you the clone is likely the easiest (and much cheaper) engine to get more rpm out of to increase speeds. With HD springs and timing key they will spin over 5K no problem and have more power too. Expensive but if you need a clutch you can look for one with larger diameter like 8" that will help.

I did some more looking and it looks like there is 6 to 7 mph between the two. I would have to spin the clone to 6k to get it to match my speed now. I was adding prices up and there isn't a whole lot of difference between a swap and stoking up an FE350. Assuming you buy a new clutch and some pre-made brackets with the clone. Now I am not talking 460cc power but the 17hp range. I am talking stock rebuild, remove counter balance, regrind cam, port head, mikuni carb, free flowing exhaust. I just need more pulling power. It takes 100 yards for my xrt to get to full speed. You throw any kind of rise in and it slows down. I can't see dropping another 3k on top of my buggy to buy a newer one. I did research using a jack shaft but that is a pain and 300 in parts but, having the ability to change gear ratios would be nice.

Maybe price a normal ccw rearend? You might be able to find one "cheap" locally or on a junk cart. Last i looked there wasnt real performance parts for the kawi's. Id swap a clone or v twin in. I have a duromax clone in one of my carts, if i did it again id buy a vegas 460 from jeff. The motor is fine but it has different parts that are unique to it makes some parts harder to find. Jeff has the parts for his 460's at a nice price. It might cost more than you want but it will give you the power you want/need.

I don't think you will find a ccw rearend for that cart.
Doesn't your cart have a locking rear?
Those xrt1200 rears are wider than a ccw DS cart rear if I recall
I was going to buy an xrt 1200 at a local auction but it went for $3000 and needed a little work, so I passed on it.
I also think your cart may have a lower gear ratio for torque.
How fast does your cart go forward then in reverse & the rpms?
That will tell you exactly what speed you will obtain with a clone running in reverse.
If it takes 100 yards to get to full speed, I think you have some other issues.
Have you looked at your clutches, belt & their engagement?
Your cart sounds like mine when the secondary clutch wasn't working properly.
It took forever to get high speed and took off like a turd, it was was stuck open for high speed.

I have the locking wider rear end. My clutch is new. The driven has new pads when I sent it in to get machined. I was thinking about adding the power springs to get the rpm up. For the guys that dont know the xrt is about the size of a JD gator. So it was pretty much a joke throwing an 11hp engine in it. Other than the lack of power and harsh ride I like it. It can handle a full 65 gallon water tank, has an electric dump bed, pretty goodbrakes for a buggy.

I paid 2k for it but it needed some work. The previous owner wasn't as good at fixing things as he thought. I replaced the carb, the original was too plugged up. Replaced the drive clutch and some other little things. I had the driven machined but I saw no difference. I orderd a torque spring off ebay for 25 bucks so I will give that a shot. Someone was selling some at half price because they didnt have instructions.

6K is a lot for a clone, I mean you will need to put a rod, flywheel, cam, valvetrain in minimum. While its cheaper than other motors by far you still doubled the cost of the engine or more. I'd tell you to drop a clone vtwin in that thing its perfect, but that will not help your speed issue at all. They don't have rev kits for them yet so you have to stay under 4K rpm at most. But you would have piles of power for around $600 engine.

You can lift and go larger tires like 26 or more if you can fit, but not sure how much faster and they are not free either lol but would look cool.

It already sits kind of high and runs on 23x10.5x12 stock. I did try calculating out running 25's on it but there were only a mild speed increase. I wonder if the axle tubes and axle splines are the same as a regular club car. If I could just swap the center section out with a CCW machine I would be golden. The added hp would make up for the higher gearing.
