Default Electric start clone wiring question

I went from the EZ-GO generator start to just key start on my clone. It has a starter. I read somewhere that if you buy the electric start clone it has a coil so it will charge the battery. The only wire I find is the one to kill the motor. Anybody got a wiring diagram for this application or an explanation?

Elec start clones usually have a 3A coil under the flywheel. Usually a wire comes out and has a tiny diode in it then connects to the breaker in the starter panel iirc, then in to the 12v power wire that is also used to feed the start solenoid on start. The other wire that comes out of the flywheel area is the coil kill wire and it also connects to the low oil sensor in the block (if you still have it connected) and the key to kill it.

The 3A is not much, its made to run for an hour and you start it once a day and use no accessories.

I can only find the kill wire from the flywheel. Its the new 16 hp hot rod engine I bought from Vegas carts. Just has the one wire from the flywheel and a solenoid for the starter.

Hmmm, wonder if the VC engines don't have the 3 amp circuit on them...

It may not, its not very useful anyway. You wanted to put an alternator on your cart anyway right? Not sure what else to tell you, other than solar panels lol.

Nobody can find where to buy the 18A kit, I think Vegas even talked to Lifan USA. But its a stator and different flywheel and VR, the whole thing is different.

You can buy the engine from home depot online and maybe others and swap the kit out, but then you have a new engine too, and the 18A charge engine is more than a usual clone (though the 18A is pretty much worth the extra). I kept mine pedal start but if not you go alternator or the 18A. Some do run them on the 3A if you have it, just charge the batt once in a while, its ok if you don't use power for much. Unless you are super lucky and find a honda gx390 with a charge system on it, you can use that. Honda had 3 different ones a 3 and around 20 and one between iirc. All had different flywheels iirc.

Yeah I think the VC440 and VC460 have the charge wire removed. They don't recommend using them, instead they push using the factory starter/gen. The Lifan engines are the ones with the 18amp coil, but Geoff at VC said they won't fit, at least as of 2 years ago when I asked him. He also said there was no source for buying an upgraded charge coil.

The guy at carolstream said you could mount a second charge coil and get 6A, but never heard if anyone ever did. Providing the flywheel has the magnet for 3A inside. I bought a lifan recoil and used my gen, the carolstream is an elec start and I hooked the 3A into the hot, but never used the starter anyway always use the gen.
