Default Can't get clone to idle...

I put a predator 420 cc in my Hyundai but it idles to high to change gears smoothly. The peddle and idle screw are adjusted fine. I'm thinking I need a stiffer spring for the governor to throttle valve on carb. Any suggestions?

If you still have the governor on the engine, you may have to adjust it so the carb is shut on the idle screw when at idle. Then slow it down until it starts to hit the compression release. If it wont then usually you have to get at the idle mix screw and richen it up, especially if you put a different exhaust and/or airbox on it.

Did you remove the internal governor? That help's (and makes it vulnerable) and allows you to back the idle screw out enough to slow the RPM's. Why do you want your clone to idle? You get more speed with a pedal start and using your starter generator.

Haven't removed governor yet. It revs to high for me to switch gears and when I come to a stop it still wants to go when I'm on the brakes.

I don't recall how I removed mine right away. But you have to adjust the governor so it goes off more and lets the carb stay closed when you are off the gas. I've had this on equipment the carb never idles the governor controls speed at low throttle, but they like to idle at 1000+ rpm and its way too high for a cart.
