Default 420cc Honda Clone potential engine knock

Hi everyone, I'm new to the forum and have just recrntly bought a Yamaha G2 and am planning for the 420cc swap, got the engine today and am questioning the sounds coming from it at idle. It has what sounds to me like a knock at idle, and when the engine is off and I spin the crank I can feel/hear a knock in it's rotation. Is a clunk like this normal for a brand new engine? And yes I did put oil in it ;)

Some have some valvetrain noise but a knock is not good, time to take it back. Or figure out how to rev it up and see what it does, a knock would get louder.

Yea that's what I figured, I took it back to the store it came from but left it in the truck and went in and checked out the display engine and a couple over ones they had out and they all seemed to so the same thing. All of them above 9HP it seemed so guess I'll try my luck with this one.

The do have a compression release at a low idle but it sounds more like hissing/popping out the exhaust and it will miss when that happens. You are supposed to set the idle above that rpm but mine is set low to shift and it misses like crazy.

Yea I sort of had that in the back of my mind since it was all the same on all the bigger bore engines I tried. This was at Princess Auto in Ontario Canada under the brand "Powerfist" so who knows how much differently the Canadian clones may be built! Anyways I appreciate your insight.

I've heard of 4-5 companies at least that build them, but I think only a few actually export them this far. Most of them do the smaller ones, fewer do the 390 and up.
