Default Carryall Jackshaft help

So I decided on swap a 420cc clone into my carryall. I know I have to run a jack shaft but I have seen 3 different kinds.
1. Clutches on engine side, sprocket on drive side
2. Sprockets on engine side, clutches on drive side
3. and sprockets all the way around

Which method is the way to go? It seems like sprockets all around don't have to worry about belts slipping easy gearing change and way cheaper. But if not what clutches do I need? If sprockets are the way whats the gearing I should shoot for?

I know its kinda off topic but how do you guys hook the throttle up to the stock pedal?

Thanks

dont do it. mount it normal. put in reverse to drive forward, forward to reverse. how i run my precedent. works fine. i put 8:1 gears in the rear end because reverse is slightly higher gear ratio than forward but imo it would have needed it if i had run a jack shaft and kept rotation the same for the axle.

also a good time to ditch the axle governor when you change gears. i cut gov shaft off inside axle housing but kept it thru the housing and run throttle cable in the same manner as stock. pedal to axle to motor, but all the pesky governor parts have been excluded. get an inductive pick up equus tach. geared 8:1 with no governor and 23" tires im running 38ish at 4500 rpm. plenty fast and will pull front tires off the ground on launch

Do you run a clutch if it is put in normal or sprockets? I would imagine I could use sprockets to fix the gearing

clutches, on the motor and on the axle input shaft. dont screw with sprockets unless youre building some bastardized compilation of golf cart and go kart parts. if thats what youre building, anything goes

He is right. You need a cvt to change gears for you and engage the belt, unless you are running a MC engine with a trans or something. You can run sprockets on the other side of the jackshaft and gear it up to any speed you want, most would likely add 20-50% for example if they wanted more speed but not super high gearing, much like the HS gears go from about 13 to 8, what is that maybe 40% change higher 13 going to 8? Most carts gain ~40-50% speed with HS gears for example 20mph to 28mph for a G9 is typical and CC about the same. So you can run a CVT into a jackshaft to sprockets coupling the trans that increase speed ~40% or whatever you decide, and its the same as HS gears. Maybe you go more to compensate for the lower reverse gear in the CC.

You would have the CVT first, otherwise you change the CVT speed also and would need to recalibrate shift of the cvt, which is possible with aftermarket clutches if you wanted to but more work. If you are not into fabricating stuff it would be easier to do HS gears and mount the engine as a normal swap like posted above. You also eliminate the chain/sprockets/bearings of the jackshaft in weight/cost/maintenance. You can do it either way, others have, its up to you. HS gears you have to split the case of the trans and swap the gears out, but removing the trans is usually the hard part.

Does anyone have a link to clutches? I don't have the stock one anymore

Also a link to stock replacement gears if I decide to not run a jack shaft

Cartpartsplus carries all you need. Might find something used on eBay. Are you going to use the starter/generator? Are you going to key start it? These are things that factor into engagement rpms on the main clutch. Won't shift f/r if it's engaged not to mention stopping.
