California Lifan 420cc
Well my new Lifan is a California model/ no big deal i suppose. I did need to pick your brains though if i could.
I have seen differing crankcase ventilation breathers etc etc/ let me describe my Cali egr type crap that camae on mine. Fuel tank vent line runs down to charcoal filter, no big deal/ not hurting a thing,.. I'll leave it alone. Air cleaner assembly housing/ choke housing etc,.. Bottom of said assembly line runs down to charcoal canister.. Cant see where it hurts anything/ i'll likely leave it. This one i am curious about: vavle cover is vented to the air cleaner housing~ this one i have seen folks put a breather on and plug the air cleaner port.. Is it hurting performance in any way by being left in tact? (Raised intake air temps perhaps,.. Marginal loss more than likely) Lastly, if i do crack the crankcase,.. If i remove the governor rod should or should i not vent the crankcase there where the hole for the rod was? (I seem to recal seeing a you tube video where the guy did that for some reason) (Ok one more question LOL..) Could anyone suggest a favorite video on how to remove the governor and fab up a throttle linkage? There are many,.. And many are piss poor..) Thanks guys |

Re: California Lifan 420cc
I doubt the vent to the airbox matters, not much comes out of that thing. Its bowby and stinks anyway. When it gets worn more will come out for sure and start to oil up the inside of the carb, but your rings will be toast by then.
The crank case you get oil out of it. The really built high rpm engines they do vent them because there is so much pressure in there, but its not needed on a more normal engine. The kart racers hit 8K with a built one and scream around a track at high rpm constantly. The ones I saw they put a fitting in the side cover to a drip can, also vent the rocker to it. The governor hole I greased a 3/8 tap and threaded it, you can blue locktite a bolt in it, I used a set screw to plug it. Don't tap it all the way and it will tighten itself up for you just use pipe tape on it. I tried a fuel pump on it and it filled it with oil pretty quick. I removed the plastic gear from the cover on one buy pressing it out, the next clone I just broke it off that was faster. Remove the arm out the top. Some keep this in for a linkage but make sure it wont hit anything inside like the crank, or chop it off so it can't. I grease the tap to collect chips, I stuff a rag inside, don't let anything get in there. But 3/8 fit mine without drilling so that was nice. I used the cart fuel tank and pump, not the clone one. It holds 6 gal or something. I tapped the rocker cover for a pulse, one I used the intake but it then needed a return line I don't like. |

Brian - I just posted a pic of my throttle setup under "Clone Throttle" thread. It is for a gokart but might give you some ideas.

Here is a comparision of stock Lifan cam (right) vs Vegas Carts torque cam (left). Same lift just a lot more duration. More power from idle to at least 5000 rpms. |

Re: California Lifan 420cc
Yes, that is the compression release. Your engine has a metal gear.

Here's a pic of the VC440 stock cam vs. the go kart racing cam (little bit hotter than the torque cam)
