Default A few more pre-decision clone questions

Will the stock starter and battery in my 2006 EZ Go TXT work competently with the Vegas Carts clone? As I mentioned in a previous thread, reliability is most important to me and I've read about these items not being up to par.

As of now I know I need the engine/mount kit, longer cables due to a 3" lift and a muffler. I believe the clutch and belts come with the engine swap kit right? Any special brackets for that starter or anything else you can tell me I might need. I have talked to VC but am looking for insight from those that have gone through the process and might know of little add-ons they needed as they built.

I recently installed the VC460 kit into my 2001 txt. The kit comes with a option when ordering to use your stock clutch or purchase the comet 780 ( which I did and recommend). The kit is very straight forward with great step by step instructions on their website in the forum section. I used my OEM starter/generator with the bracket that comes with the kit with no problems. Everything lined up and worked as they should. I am very happy with the overall results not to mention the absolutely best costumer service I have ever had.

Did you use the stock battery, and if so was it powerful enough? I ask because I read a thing or two online saying that the starter wouldn't hold up with 460 and the battery wasn't strong enough. I am in the decision making mode on this and crunching numbers so I know the final cost and if I am willing to pay what it costs or just rebuild my Robins, which is a cheaper option. I mentioned in previous threads that speed is of little concern but reliability and better pulling power are.

If you don't mind another question, what did you do far an exhaust and how did the volume turn out?

I am using the battery that I had in it when I bought the cart which had the robins 295cc and it is working fine. I also installed the street legal kit, so I am powering head lights also. When it comes to more pulling power the clone is definitely the way to go. For the exhaust I went with the walker which is the quieter of the two options offered by Vegas Carts, but it is louder than a stock robins 295 by quite a bit. There is tons of information on this site that explains what others did to quiet it down. For just puttn around though I don't think it is to loud, but that is my opinion. I'll attach a picture too on how I fabricated up my exhaust header and muffler that comes with the kit. Any good muffler shop could easily do this if you didn't have the equipment. Here is a pick of my cart hooked to my boat to move it out of storage. Pulls it like it isn't there.

Exhaust looks great! Do you have any pics as it was being assembled? This is the pipe from Vegas correct?

Thanks Sshifer. That Walker muffler from VC is the way I am leaning. It's good to hear it isn't annoyingly loud. I'm hoping it is about the same as my 2001 WorkHorse that has a Vanguard in it. I've read a bunch of threads on mufflers but I am really trying to keep this as simple as possible. The bracket pictures help.

Nice looking cart by the way. I am a big fan of black but living on dirt that is accessed by a mile of dirt road, black isn't the best option. I actually picked my car color based on what would show dirt and mud the least!

Nice clean installation. My VC 460 turns over WAY easier and faster with the S/G than it it with the stocker. The compression release on the VC engine makes all the difference.

raydhd, Is the compression release on the 460 automated? I'm guessing yes since I can't imagine anyone manually hitting a compression release at every start up. Is your cart set up like a normal golf cart, where a press on the gas pedal turns the engine over? I ask because it seems some clone owns convert to the type of system a car or UTV has.

The compression release is "automatic".There is a weight system on the cam that bumps the exhaust valve slightly open.I changed mine to key start since we drive them like cars here on the island. But that doesn't affect the compression release one way or another.Did a lot of riding yesterday, but alas had to work today.
