Predator 420cc fuel issue.
I have a 91 club car ds with predator 420cc clone
Motor. I runs awesome except after about 10-15 minutes of solid driving or 1-2 minutes wide open (still have governor on). I pull the seat up and the filters look empty. I can usually use the choke and limp it along or let it idle enough to fill the filters back up then good for a little bit again. I went through 3 stock club car fuel pumps now I'm using one that's supposed to be able to supply enough fuel (mikuni 808492) for the 23-25hp Briggs (the black round plastic one) and still have the same trouble. I've shortened the fuel lines, I tried running the pulse line off both the valve cover and also the carb insulator block neither makes a difference. I've replaced the carb with a new one no change, got genuine honda carb from gx390, no change, no I am runnin the tuned carb from Vegas carts and still no change! It's like the pump is losing it's prime. The vent line to the tank is clear, I've replaced this also. I'm to the point I want to find an electric fuel pump to try. |

Re: Predator 420cc fuel issue.
When it runs out of fuel, I can usually get it to come back by cranking it over with the choke pulled to suck some fuel back into the lines. Blowing into the vent line/tank usually will help it. I don't know if this make difference I using stock club car tank and have the pump mounted in the stock location (side of tank) it's towards the top of the tank on the side. Also using the stock club car muffler, maybe too much back pressure for this motor?

Here is a couple photos of my current setup. Mikuni 808492 fuel pump in factory location, using pulse signal from valve cover, and vegas carts tuned carburetor...

Don't use the valve cover for a pulse. Buy the adapter that goes between the carb and block and use that for the pulse. They are only $10 IIRC from Vegas carts.

Re: Predator 420cc fuel issue.
Likely bad pulse fitting or pump
I am running the isolator and haven't had a problem with high speed runs at all |

Re: Predator 420cc fuel issue.
I originally had the pulse fitting coming from the carb insulator with the stock club car pump, no luck. Replaced it with a new club car pump since the old one came with the cart and had no idea of the age. New pump, still no luck. Thought well **** maybe I got a bad pump, ordered another club car pump, same problem. Looked around at some of the larger motors and the pumps they use, purchased one of those figuring if it can feed those motors surly it can feed mine... Still no luck so then changed pulse line the valve cover and put the regular carb insulator block back on. Still same problem. I've just about replaced the fuel lines with brand new line each time I've made any changes and using hose clamps nice and snug at every connection. I ordered a new factory club car tank vent fitting and line and have also changed that out with no luck... It is driving me nuts. When it cuts out I can lift the seat see the filter in the line is empty and it will slowly begin to fill back up using the choke and cranking it over. I can usually get it to run again by using the choke. Sometimes blowing into the tank vent line accelerates the re priming process...

Re: Predator 420cc fuel issue.
I had somewhat of a similar issue earlier this year. The issue ended up being that some of my fuel lines had become rigid and weren't sealing completely at the fittings of one of my in line fuel filters. I replaced the fuel lines with new rubber fuel lines and everything has worked perfectly since.

Re: Predator 420cc fuel issue.
^ I am thinking the same thing
I used clear hose from my local ace hardware store and so far haven't had a issue with them I did have my tank vent go nutty on me once due to the heat from the engine(yea that was fun to deal with ) |

Re: Predator 420cc fuel issue.
I'm not a fan of the hard rubber/plastic lines. I have always used good old soft rubber. Never a sealing problem.
