Default 1st Timer Backyard G9 Build

Well I have been gathering parts for a couple weeks now and reading this forum for every tidbit of info I could find and I finally got down to the fun part this this morning.
A few days ago I ordered a Lifan 13hp engine from Home Depot, thanks go out to several of you for the informative write-ups you have done but I seemed to gather (according to Sho305 and a couple more) that the Lifan would be my most dependable clone engine.
I removed the governor and low-oil sensor when it arrived Thursday and stripped the engine down to have it ready for this morning. I would say that so far the hardest thing I've found about this venture is tapping the crankshaft for a new bolt to hold the clutch, that took me several hours today, I have broke off too many taps in my lifetime and I had a fear today with the metal in the crankshaft being so hard. Luckily I made it through without breaking it!!!
Here are a few pics I got today, I hope the guys at Vegas Carts don't get upset with me copying their engine mount...
I mounted the engine and fuel tank and fired it up with no exhaust right before dark.....Just had to ride one trip around the yard, all I can say is WOW!, that ain't no golf cart anymore!!
Now to get Star/Gen mounted and finish the body work and paint, more pics coming soon!

That is about how mine started out, and still going strong. The crank is not hardened. Just remember most of the time taps break because they are dull, if you drill the right size and are careful you should be fine. If you tap deep back it out to clean out the chips every so far in. Really in a blind hole like that you should use a spiral cut tap, it will force the chips back out the top so you are not cutting into your chips. Unfortunately most hardware places don't carry them.

Oh yeah, stock clone will spin the tires and stuff its a huge upgrade over stock.

I actually went to the hardware store and got a new Irwin tap and the correct drill bit but man it was tough going.
I fabricated my brackets and mounted the star/gen yesterday, I'm trying to get my exhaust pipe and flange welded together today somewhere. I'd like to get the exhaust done this afternoon....what do you guys think of the Walker 22022 muffler?

Ok guys, it's been a long time coming but I thought I would post pics of the finished product before I start on my body work and painting. I still got a lot of work to do but this old Yammi runs fantastic now. Now if I can just make it look as great as it runs!

Looks good! The only suggestion would be to have the pipe and the muffler brackets mounted to the swing arm, not the frame. The swing arm with the engine moves independently from the frame.

Or you can do what I did, and put a coupling in the exhaust pipe so it rotates.

Finally almost finished with my build except for bending, welding, painting and mounting my 1 inch tubing bumpers and custom top frame. I also have a cargo bed to install but it is pretty much complete. I have enjoyed doing the build but think maybe if I do another it will be a Club Car.........
