I do not have the charging figured out.
I wired everything up per the lifan techs
instructions. put a meter on the battery when
engine is running, and it shows 11.2 to 12.4.
I have had to charge the battery twice now.

You have the elec start with no cart generator? The clones only charge 3A constant, not much, you need lot of hours to charge if battery down some. Only the more expensive 18A charge HD lifan charges the flywheel is different and it has a VR. The normal clone intended for equipment like a pressure washer/etc that runs hours and no accessories run off it. The normal clone has a wire from under the flywheel with a small diode inline that makes it DC, this wire usually hooks in to the breaker on the key switch box then to the 12v wire on switch iirc. The breaker is in case it shorts in the flywheel the battery will not supply power and burn something there or melt wires, or maybe in case you short a wire outside the engine as well.

For more power you either use the stock gen, put an alternator on, or charge it once in a while. First two you need a clutch with a pulley or get a vegas pulley to put behind it if you have room (1" shaft mounting). Or you come up with a pulley that mounts on the flywheel side but you lose the recoil, some lawn equipment runs stuff that way.

If you were really crafty you might figure out how to run an alt off the secondary somehow like hotrods do off the driveshaft, but never seen it done.

You can swap to all LED lighting, that will help use less power.

Unfortunately this is an issue with clones, and why Vegas recommends you keep the stock gen. But people here do have the line on a small fairly cheap alt on ebay they use with success. If you can fit the vegas pulley you may need to slide the clutch out (if you have a 780 an did not chop the crank shorter usually not a problem) to fit the pulley, unfortunately you would also need to slide the engine over to make the drive belt line up again, and also make mounts for the alt. There are posts here in clones for it, many have used the one wire alternators. The stock cart gen is only 15A of charge, those little alt are 40A or something. Also the gen does not make full power at low rpm while the alt have better output at low rpm. Some even use a smaller pulley than stock cart does to lower rpm to the alt.

That should be plenty of charge unless you are running a huge stereo or off road lights, etc.
