New to golf scene and want to do a predator 301cc swap
I was wondering what would fully be needed to do a 301cc predator engine swap. I have a 2008 ez go that has a robins 295cc. I just want to keep it close to the same and not go bigger. I have read to do the taper adapter but wasn't sure if I needed that because of the size being so close.

Re: New to golf scene and want to do a predator 301cc swap
I just bought it and it's missing the carb and the people said they think that's all that was wrong with it. They also said it had troubles getting up inclines towards the end before carb was taken out to have rebuilt. I figured, why waste the money on a new carb and maybe clutch? I have that predator engine new just laying in my garage and was going to be used for another project. I did some research and only found about that tapper part. Was wondering how much more there is involved in it.

You can get a aftermarket carb on ebay for 25 and most of the time on those 295 and 350 engines all they need is the valves adjusted to get power back, just a thought before buying alot of parts to swap in a engine that is the same size and likely the same performance as the one you already have,

Re: New to golf scene and want to do a predator 301cc swap
Thanks for the update. I thought of that route also but since I have the engine new and free i figured it couldn't be to hard. A few custom welded brackets and drop in. I know you lose reverse and such. My main question is what is this tapper deal and do I have to run it. Also me using my stock clutch since the engine is no difference in cc. I believe it's a 1" shaft and 1" clutch?

You will need to get the taper adapter and cut the crank shorter on the new engine and tap the bolt hole deeper to compensate for what's cut off, and you will not lose reverse with that cart only if it was a electric conversion or a 2 cycle cart

Re: New to golf scene and want to do a predator 301cc swap
You would just use your factory starter generator for starting and charging, u would just use the carb the came with whatever engine you choose, so a quick idea on putting that 301 engine in there, you would need to build or buy a motor mount, you will need to build or buy a mount for your starter generator, you will need a taper shaft adapter and cut crank down for use of factory clutch, you will need to build or buy a exhaust, you will need to buy or make something for your air cleaner because I believe the stock one with that 301cc engine will be too big if cart is not lifted, you will also need to fab up a throttle linkage to new carb, you will also need to wire up a relay to your kill wire on new engine to be able to start and stop the engine like a factory engine would,

Re: New to golf scene and want to do a predator 301cc swap
There is a lot more work involved than just a simple swap. Besides the taper adapter you'll need all the other stuff that Fisher mentioned.
A couple other things will be new belts. Although you could use the factory ones if you get everything set exactly the same to use them, the chances are slim that you will. I understand that putting the engine in may sound and seem easy but there is a lot that can and will come up to cost money and time. Also, unless your pretty mechanically inclined and can do a lot of your own fab work it also won't be cheap too do the swap. |
