Default New issue need help again!

Quick catch up. Predator 301cc on 2002 ezgo txt with 6" lift....I was having trouble idle to high and no adjustment on This engine. Now I have ordered the gx390 carb with the option to adjust. Here's my questions---I installed the new spring in factory clutch to help not engage so quick---that helped---now I've adjusted a little on this carb and I got it to idle down but when I give it gas it's like it's starving and won't open up full throttle ....I can't turn it up cause I'm back at square one not being able to get it into gear. Is there a way to fix this.....new pilot/jet?? I know Vegas carts has the one but what's the difference then what I have now other then the upgraded fuel pilot jet?

ITS ALMOST THERE!!!

For a stock - unmodified engine IMO the 390 carb is too big. Sense there is no accelerator pump I just gulps air and not enough fuel. Whats to bore diameter of the carburetors, the new one must be larger then the old. I'm not sure what your going to do for an over carbureted engine -- but I would do some measuring before I'd buy anything else.
I would check the side of the old carb and look for a plug or cap over the air adjustment screw. Drill a pin hole in the cap and screw a drywall screw in it and pull it out. There should be a screw hiding under it.

Might be able to find a gx340 carb cheap on eBay that's adjustable. Prob gonna be the closest you gonna find to that 301. I don't know if the gx270 carb would bolt on...

Will it bolt up to the 212cc? The boot up is same for the 301. Is there anyway of adjusting the govern on there? It just has to idle so low for it to engage in gear. If it wasn't for that then I would be good!

With the right carburetor and proper adjustment a stock 1 cylinder engine should idle around 750-900 rpm. That's plenty slow enough to change gears.

Mine will idle right down till the comp release is going, and even idle slower though it has the gen to help it. The key is getting to the idle mix screw, its on the side next to the spacer. Get the plug out, slow the idle and turn that idle screw out some. If not enough you have to enlarge the idle jet in the plastic plug under the idle speed screw on top of carb. That jet limits the max fuel the idle mix gets. Once you get it rich enough the idle should be better, starting better and with no choke. Far as carb too big it may be, but if you don't floor it seems like it should work. You likely have to jet the main too see if it runs better with the choke part way on then you know its too lean so hog the main bigger and try it, repeat. IIRC the 390-420 carb is 24mm at the spacer. I just bought a 32mm for my 420 but its a CV carb and they have a vacuum slide in them so you will never bog hitting the gas. They are very good for running too big a carb. They can be bought very cheap for scooters around the 24mm size, as well as other atv/scooter carbs that are way better than lawn carbs. Yes you will have to screw around jetting them. This was a GY6 performance carb. Lawn carbs are made to run on a governor, the scooter/motorcycle carbs are better at throttle driven uses. My stock 420 carb works well say 90% of the time, if I can ever get the new carb installed with the all new intake to make it fit I will post the differences. This CV is a much larger carb than the clone unit (in outside dimensions).

Now I can't even get the dang thing to crank and stay running. I think I bent the governor spring. Not sure what it is now, I can add some gas to the carb and crank but as soon as I get it gas it dies.

Would the tuned carb from vegas be the way to solve the problems of the carb issue??

I wouldn't go so large. That carb is for a 460 cammed engine. Something along the line of a GX340 carb. Can you post a few pictures of your carburetor from different views? Here's an adjustable carb -- you can see the air screw in one of the pictures.http://www.ebay.com/itm/HONDA-GX340-...wAAOSwa39UtjPx

You have to adjust the idle mix to get a good idle, it will have a plug over it unless you get a vegas carb that is non epa. If you turn it out 3 turns or so and still not rich enough you have to pull that jet out the top of the carb and make it larger to get more idle fuel.

After that you do the main jet in the bowl.

The Vegas carb has the screws but its large and 390/420/460 carb may not run well on it. They put them on gokarts because they have huge cams in 212cc and high rpm but wont work on stock engine. Yours it is iffy you will have to try it. You can get stock carbs on ebay cheap last time I looked.
