Default New to clone page, a hesitation when first pushing on pedal

I have a 97 club car, with what I have been told is a harbor freight /Honda clone- I have spent time on the gas club car page, and they have suggested, I might run into more information over here-

I have not touched anything, like rev limiter or governor-

I bought the cart from a guy, that had new paint, tires, wheels, brakes seats that had a new engine put in and could not get it started or keep it running and new battery kept going dead- someone did not hook up the choke system, by the drivers left leg-

The Guy had it on craigslist for close to 7 months, nobody came and even looked at it- He had it listed as an older Harley Davidson cart- not a Club car with a Harley Davidson theme- My neighbor and I went and looked at it and had it started in 5 minutes- the guy said make me an offer and I threw a number out and the guy took it- My neighbor laughed all the way home, It was a low offer, I was just using it as a starting point, I did not expect him to take it- The cart runs nice- but it seems like it will go faster if I can figure out whats going on- I wanted to give some history on the cart- I didn't want to sound like an idiot- like why was it done this way- the engine looks like harbor freights 13 HP (420cc) OHV Horizontal Shaft Gas Engine EPA except it blue
thanks

any suggestions would be appreciated- I have an electric cart for hunting, but in laws could not figure out home to charge batteries, so I am not a complete newbie, just a gas newbie

Find out what model clone it is, some are hemi head and different. See if the vegas carts HD valve springs fit it and get those should get the pushrods too. If a hemi they may not fit I don't know. You can put an advance key in the flywheel too if you want to remove it to do so. Anyway for a few bucks (that stuff is very reasonable) now you can run it with no governor and go much faster, though I would not recommend screaming it for very long at top rpm.

After that you can look at the airbox and exhaust situation, if stock parts were used they may be restrictive and slow it down. If the cart is not lifted you can look into HS gears last CC I did they were $300 but they make it as fast as a lifted cart (add about 10mph, about same gain as putting 22" to 23" tires on) and you only do it once. That CC was all stock 93 flathead and did 28 gps hitting the limiter.

Look for a model number on the recoil or side of engine see if you can match it up to a HF engine, they also sourced different engines at times they used to be lifan and now are made by someone else.

Last look at your clutches and tell us what width belt is on it, if you can tell what clutch it is, stock or not. Stock CC usually 1" wide but they sometimes change to 1 3/16 that is much more common. Or post a pic of them.

Good point, the reverse gear on those is lower ratio.
