Fuel starving issue vc460
Ok I had issues where the engine was being starved for fuel and would die due to bad vacuum pulse pump connection.
So I got a electric fuel pump(hopeing the issue would be fixed) well it did fix the issue to a point but not entirely Today my dad and I took the cart to one of my family members house(cart done great during this part of the trip) I decided to take a different route due to impending storm(drove with my headlights on for safety) the cart did good but sounded different under w.o.t and only topped out at 30mph as we was heading home(local old highway) as we started on our road the cart's proformance started to suffer I noticed the engine head temp was going up above what it would normally would run(rarely past 160) the closer we got to home the cart got slower(engine temp reading was 175 and climbing) top speed dropped down into the lower 20's(engine sounded like it was struggling) I couldn't get over half throttle without it wanting to sound like it was struggling(exghust sounded different from normal) As we got to the last large hill I could barely do 12-13mph while the throttle couldn't go over 1/4 without issue(it would act like it wanted to die if I pushed it more then that) Engine temp was hitting 200 when it did this I have to ask is it possible having the return line with a electric pump is starving the engine under load?? I have a cut off valve and am thinking of trying it to see what happens with it on the return line Thoughts on this??? |

What octane gas are you running, and how old is it? Ethanol drops octane as it ages and has a fairly short shelf life. The sound you heard could be pinging from the lack of octane and would get worse as you continued to try to maintain speed.

Re: Fuel starving issue vc460
VC recommends 91 octane fuel for the 460. Most gas of 2016 is garbage and has a high level of alcohol in it. I've been taught that you should not buy more gas then you can use in 30 days. What type of gas are you buying and how long are you storing it before use?

Could it be you have a short in the lighting system and the S/G is dragging the engine down? Did you try shutting the lights off?

Re: Fuel starving issue vc460
I run 100percent gas with no ethanol in it(which is hard to find as only two places carry it in my area)

Re: Fuel starving issue vc460
The fuel rarely gets stored long before its used and it's never sat longer then 30days before it gets used

The starter/generator does need new brushes but it hasn't been a issue before with the lights causing a problem as I have rode it before many times with the lights on |

Re: Fuel starving issue vc460
What octane level gas with no ethanol are you using? Is it high test? We have places that sell straight gas --89 octane. That's not high enough for the 460 but perfect for your mower and weed wacker.

I have a bottle of octane booster if you think I should try it?? What got me was it was acting like it wasn't getting enough gas with both of us on the cart(me and my dad) I have also had issues pulling steep hills since I have converted to the electric pump(speed used to drop only 2-3mph now its dropping 10mph on the same hill) with just me on the cart |

Re: Fuel starving issue vc460
I don't believe it is the fuel.I burn old gas ,87 octane, whatever gas and my 460 hasn't missed a beat in over 130 hours. The clone needs nothing from the cart but fuel so somewhere you seem to have something wrong in your fuel system.
