Default Choke to start every time.

Is there any thing I can do to a stock carb on predator 420cc to not have to choke to start. Do you still have to choke with a vegas carts carb?

You should not need a choke with bigger jetted VC carb.

Sounds like a fueling problem if you have to choke the carb every time.

I have a motorcycle I bought recently that had the exhaust changed as well as a K&N filter installed. It wouldn't start without the choke and until it warmed up you had to use some choke.

It didn't run right, even once warmed up either. Sputtered on up throttle and some during steady speed.

I bought a jet kit and moved up in sizes in the carbs and set the main needle a bit higher. Now the bike starts easily with no choke anytime and revs easily and smoothly. Wide open throttle is smooth as well.

Engines are made to run on the lean side when new. It has to do with emissions I guess. If you change much of anything, such as a free flowing muffler or a more open air intake system, this lean fuel problem only worsens and the running of the engine really suffers. Running lean can even make mileage suffer, sometimes as much so as running too rich.

Running too lean also causes more heat and can lead to a failed engine.

One way to see if the engine is running too lean is after starting the engine, rev the engine with the choke off. Then slightly choke the engine and try it again. If the revving is smoother with the choke pulled out slightly then you are too lean.

I have predator 420cc and Vegas carts tuned carb and I have to choke mine every time. I know I am having fuel supply issues though. Been fighting the pulse pump. Switching to electric pump soon.

How did you hook your choke cable to the lever on the carb?

This works perfectly on the Vegas Carts carb, I haven't figured out which cable to use yet, my stock ezgo cable is way too short.

I have this on my vc460. I bought the G2 dash mount choke cable --- it's 86 inches long. I cut the ball off the end of the cable - lost the clevis and mounted it just as any choke cable. Works perfect.

Now back to the original post. Used as a golf cart the machine has to start for anyone who gets on it. That's hundreds of people a year. I use mine as a truck -- get on it start it and the engine keeps running at all times. It needs a choke to start -- idles perfectly -- comes off idle and roars. It's still not finished cause I'm waiting for parts but I'm doing my break-in in the cart - not on the floor.

I drilled the idle jet plug out of mine and richened the idle, it starts all the time with no choke even in cool weather almost down to freezing. The vegas carb comes with the screw accessible, it is near the spacer on the left side away from the engine. EPA engines they put a plug over the screw or some break the screw off and you have to replace it with a normal one. Or you can get the VC carb.
