Belt length and cart performance
I'm sure there is an answer to this question already on here, but I can't seem to find it. I would like to move my motor (420 Lifan / Vegas cart cradle) back about an inch. The header is very close to the rear axle and the S/G sits where I think it has a good chance of hitting the frame on a hard bounce.
What does a shorter belt do performance wise? |

Re: Belt length and cart performance
Shorter belt on the same setup will tend to have more power on takeoff and lose top speed. It can drag on the primary at idle or starting if too tight, depends on the clutch some wont most stock clutches will.
But if you move the engine say 1" away from the trans, then you get a 2" longer belt (or vice-versa) and it should run just like it did before. Too long a belt on same setup harder to take off because it will engage part way up the primary so you lose low gear, it can make it bog, you don't want that. |
