Default stock rope pull on Clone

The 460 Clone package from Vegas comes with a rope starter pull cord. For grins, I tried to see if you can start the clone with the rope only. Good Luck with that! Unless you can actuate a compression release, I couldnt pull it thru. Anyone else tried this?

I tried, almost took my arm off and promptly broke the rope.
On the stock clones they pull start a lot easier

Put 1.3 rockers on it with the stock compression release its easy. If you are running a cam without the release it's near impossible.

My stock 420 pulled easy enough, with 1.3 rockers it was even easier. But hey, its even easier yet to use the pedal I did try it just to make sure it worked in case of emergency. I also had the screw fall out of my stock clone rope handle and had to modify it some, vibration I am sure. I thought the Vegas did have comp release? Though some came with a different came I also heard.

I have started my VC 460 with a milled head many times with the pull cord.I also have the 1.3 rockers on mine. But with the valve lash set correctly it should spin easily. I did reclock the starter unit so the handle is in the 12 o clock position.

Set the lash really small, and check it after a while it gets larger on break in.

best way to pull it is to get it past the compression stroke, pull starts fairly easily after that.

I have heard with some people the thing on the cam was bent and gave less release, this usually only an issue with a cheater or aftermarket cam.

It's a standard VC Clone 460. No special cams. Valve lash is setat .003. I'll pull it past the compression mode and try that.
