Default 1st build opinions

I recently acquired a lifted 98 ez go cart, it was flooded by a storm years ago and the engine is junk. Ive been doing research for the last few days and i am thinking of using a hf predator 420cc with a comet 780 clutch. I am hoping to get some advise before i begin.

thanks in advance

Great project, what do you need advice on? We have plenty of it. You need to figure if you need pedal start or not, what engine, are you going to use Vegas mounts, mod the engine or not, new clutch, replace other worn parts, etc. Do you have the generator?

I am planning on just using a keyed ignition on the dash and starting the engine when i plan on driving. The predator 420cc seems like a common/good option. I would like to fab my own mounts to save money but i was hoping to see someone elses homemade mounts to get an idea. I may be able to use the old clutch with the correct bushing, is it better to just go with the comet 780? Yes i have the generator but it it seized.

The cart got flooded from hurricane Katrina and a friend of mines dad bought it to fix it and he brought it home to michigan and it has sat in his barn since then, his barn is basically a carport, it has no doors and a dirt floor needless to say its a little rough. the steering works, the brakes work a little, i should pull em apart. the gas pedal control box parts are all seized and rusty i have them soaking now hopefully i can free those up. the rearend seems to work but any small moving parts need tlc

Make sure you drain the transaxle and change the oil. It may even need to be disassembled and cleaned. I've been involved in flood vehicles and the mud can get in places you'll never imagine.

I did yamahas, I used two bars and a tube to drop the front down. But ezgo going to be different. Yamaha the lift angles the cradle and engine, so you need to lower the front to level it back out. I drain my oil between the two bars. They are 1-5 or 2" wide and 5/16 to 3/8 thick, plain hot roll steel or whatever. I welded my mount in.

So being impatient I went ahead and bought the mounting cradle from vegas carts and there comet 780r. Mt question is do I have to remove the gas tank, air intake and muffler off my stock predator 420cc? I was hoping to do this build with a minimal budget but it's adding up quick. I was hoping I could just drop the complete engine in an lone up the clutches.

You need the S/G drive pulley and mounting bracket if you are going to have a starting and charging system.

I assumed that the 3 amp output of the engine would maintain a battery if I only use it for starting?

I doubt it. I am sure some others will jump in here but don't think that will work out.
