Default Duromax carb adjustment

Okay this isn't going in a cart, but hear me out cause this forum seems to have the best non-gokart clone info that I can find.

I'm swapping a Duromax 18hp (440) into a garden tractor(Bolens H14XL), so I need to keep the governor. It will be used for mowing, snowblowing, pulling. The pilot screw looks like it is the kind that is set and then the head is snapped off. The reason that adjustment is crucial is that the stock air filter and exhaust both interfere with the side of the hood, so I have the K&Nstyle filter, adapter, and Outerwear from NRracing along with thier exhaust stub and will probably run a car muffler. Assuming this will require substantial fuel adjustment.

Does anyone have a simple solution for the snap-off pilot screw, or would I be better off to get a different carb like the one from VC? Assuming it still works with a governor?

Thanks, tons of great info here.

The Vegas Carts carburetor would be your best bet. It will work with the governor that's on the engine. Just hook the linkage the same to the new carb.

Thanks Shep

Someone mentioned replacing the screw in another thread, but I haven't seen the screw listed for sale separate. Grabbed it whith a needle nose but it seems to have thread locker on it also, it wouldn't budge.
The VC carb is priced well enough

I took mine out by putting a slot in it with a dremel, then heated it up with a solder gun to release loctite, then it came out easily. You can buy new ones on ebay and so on cheap. You can buy another carb like the vegas cheap too, and it has the screw in it, its the same carb but jetted richer IIRC. You can also get the adjustable screw for the main.

You may also have to remove the idle jet, in that plastic plug under the idle speed screw on top of carb. The jet is tiny, in that plastic plug, I ran wire through it and sawed on it some that was enough. If you can't get the idle mix screw to go rich enough you have to enlarge that jet to get more fuel at idle. It all depends on your exhaust and airbox as you said, more flow and these carbs are way lean.
