90 club car engine swap
Im starting to get a little intimidated by some of the stuff im reading on swapping a engine. I have a 90 club car that someone took the engine out and i would like to put something in that gives me enough power to climb a 1/4 mile hill to retrieve my mail.. i kinda would like to do it on the cheap but also would like it done right so it will last.. suggestions on engines and steps i should take would be great. I was thinking of the harbor frieght 420cc but if there is a better one thats easyer for not crazy amount more that would work also.. this project will take me some time and im not in a big hurry i just want to do this the right way the first time.

Many times someone starts with a clone stocker but at the end of the day wishes they would have spent the extra cash for the vegascarts 460. Read more threads and decide.

They are a sponsor here so you can click above to get to their site. The current price is $599.99 delivered to your door. However that is just for the engine. You would still need exhaust, engine mounts, and S/G mount plus whatever else you decide for the clutch. Also on the site are installation guides for clone engine in various carts.

Re: 90 club car engine swap
Search clist for a gx390 Honda 13 hp engine, I paid $125 for one local to me.
Use your stock clutch with the taper adapter. Make your own engine cradle. Exhaust I can't recall if the stock one will work, if not maybe you can make one or buy one. Some other little things but you can do it for a lot cheaper than $1000 & it will still kick azz |

Re: 90 club car engine swap
Either a stock honda or any of the clone stockers will be slower than the stock engine due to their 3500 or so rpm limit. Most stock cart engines will turn more than this with the governor off.To get any of the honda like engines to safely rev higher the valve springs need to be changed, the carb jetted, and the cam timing at the very least advanced. If you want to turn over 4500 rpms the connecting rod needs to up graded. For power above this rpm the cam itself or again at the least higher ratio rocker arms are needed. As a recap if you want slightly better pulling power the stock clone will do that with less top speed unless you change the gearing. If you want twice the power and a lot more top speed the VC 460 is the answer. P.S. The honda and other clones have a 7 bolt crankcase where the VC unit has the much stronger 10 bolt case.Again I would read others threads and think what your goal for this engine is to decide how to precede.

Re: 90 club car engine swap
I just finished putting a Vegas Carts 460 in my 2001 EZGO to replace a blown Robin motor. It was pretty straight forward swap. They did the hard part of putting the kit together. Plus there is a world of helpfull knowledge here from people who have been there done that. That was a great help when I did run into snags. With the new motor, I am thinking it is going to get used a lot more than it did before like plowing snow and pulling a lawn aerator.
