Re: putting in 212cc engine
I wonder if anyone has found a fuel tank to fit some carts, my 90 has a crack in it.

Re: putting in 212cc engine
You can use the comet system for 5hp buggies it was like $130 last I looked, torqaverter or something its called. It will help a bunch, however you still will NOT have reverse. The clutch system bolts on the engine and sticks out behind it so your install may change with it, others here have posted builds using it.

Re: putting in 212cc engine
Is there anyone here that did this conversion and KEPT it. Some have been built and sold off quickly others. All of them I have seen either the comet failed in one way or another or the chain was impossible to keep properly adjusted.

Re: putting in 212cc engine
i had a old hyundai electric cart that i got for super cheap and converted to gas using a lifan electric start 6.5hp engine and a ebay special torqaverter setup with a sprocket welded to the rear end, it actually wasnt too bad, it went about 15 mph with the governor still in the engine, but i too ended up selling it, i made it for my wife to have her own cart but she hated the fact it had no reverse and never drove it so it just sat at the camper

Re: putting in 212cc engine
This cart had a 300cc 2 cylinder gas motor in the gas version. Is 212cc going to be enough power if it does work? I think maybe not.

Re: putting in 212cc engine
Most older stock carts are 9.5hp and they are not exactly powerful. A dry cart is about 600lb, way huge way more than a light gokart frame. A while back people were getting powerland 13hp clones for under 200 if you want cheap, but you really still need the gas rear to get reverse and to use the cart type clutches to make it shift well.
I'm sure 6.5hp will move you around on flat ground but it will be underpowered. |

I hate to say it but, this sounds like hooking a burro to a plow.

Re: putting in 212cc engine
A guy here posted video of his and he was zinging down the road pretty nice it did 20 some mph or something on flat road, just saying its likely not great for much else. Takes less power to run down a paved road, my stock G9 would lose 2mph on packed gravel from pavement with 22 tires. And that assumes you don't have any hills to go up.
