2002 EZgo Clone engine help
I have a 02 Ezgo with the 9.0 robins which suffered a flood (underwater). Now I'm trying to find the best engine swap available with out breaking the bank. I've been reading about the predator engine and was wondering what is needed to make it all work. I have plenty of mechanical knowledge. I just need to know if there is a kit to buy or just make the parts to work. It also needs electric start. Please any suggestions welcomed.

Re: 2002 EZgo Clone engine help
Vegascarts a sponsor here has all the parts you need for the swap. They also have the clone engine itself all beefed up for 6000 rpms use. The 6000 rpms really comes into play if you are using the stock tires as with any of the clones it is rpms and not HP is the limiting speed factor.Maybe more than you want to spend but all the parts are of top fit and quality.

Re: 2002 EZgo Clone engine help
I put their 25HP Big Block Engine Upgrade Kit for 1994-2008 EZGO TXT in my 2001 this winter. The kit is awesome, cart runs great. Vegas Carts is very good at answering questions, plus there is a lot of info and help here in the forum.

Re: 2002 EZgo Clone engine help
The other option (if the Big Block is out of the price range) would be to call Carrie at CT Rebuilds, they can swap out your bad motor for a freshly remanufactured 9hp for less than $600, OR You can step up to their 14hp "375" modified motor for about $175 more, it's your call. The Vegas kits are INSANE (just sold another cart with one today) but you're looking at around double the cost of a reman, even with the Predator you're going to still end up well over a grand with all the neccesary pieces and parts.

Re: 2002 EZgo Clone engine help
2 Points here . 1] Since your engine was drowned IF it gets labeled as a non rebuildable core there will be a $400 core charge at CT. 2 ] Using a $300 clone engine and using Vegascarts engine, and S/G mounts with a clutch adapter your swap cost would be around $600. This of course would require some adaptation by you on throttle, exhaust, and fuel systems. But if you are handy it is the cheap way out.

That flooded engine may still be good, IF you didn't try to start it with water inside the combustion cylinder.

Quote:
My first clone install was a $300 clone and I had next to nothing else into it maybe $100. Welded in bars (in a G9) for the mount, $50 for the clutch adapter, $20 for an airbox and muffler out of a car at a bone yard, few pvc fittings and clamps, pipe fittings, etc, and it was done all stock with governor removed and carb jetted. It goes 1-2 mph faster than stock but gets there way quicker. And HD springs so it would rev more are like $20, but the owner says its great the way it is, they don't really have good area to go 30mph anyway. I gps it at 31mph on a dirt drive with 22 tires. Other clone with mods but stock block has hit 38gps with same cart and tires. Stock 18 tires is roughly 10mph less I would guess, roughly the same as 22s if you had HS gears and stock tires. I will say doing the swap with no parts is a lot of work, less the second time. I had to engineer it all and make the parts, weld it up. Took a lot of time. Using a bought mount will save you time. I also had a welding shop at my disposal and steel, saws, drill press, etc. You can have the stock engine out of a cart in half hour if you go slow, but making an exhaust system for example may take all weekend lol. But hey some of us are pretty strange and enjoy that stuff. |
