Did you install a return line ? Remember the clones are set up for gravity feed on the fuel system.

I think the yamaha clone swaps mostly need the return line.

Re: Yamaha Motor upgrade to 18 HP
In my clones you need it with intake pulse, you don't need it with rocker cover pulse. The intake makes a huge pulse at idle and that is when it would overflow.
Of course I put a 32mm CV carb on mine now and would tell you to just do that, even a 30mm are not that expensive maybe you can do smaller stock I don't know but the intake spacer was 24mm on mine stock. But throttling is smoother and had no issue with it yet no flat spots like the stock carb. I think I will get a cheaper one (I bought the pumper version about $75 so I could get it going easier in the winter) for the stock clone they are about half that price. My intake is working well just need to make couple more of them when I get time and I can swap that one too. |

Re: Yamaha Motor upgrade to 18 HP
I put a tee before the carb, then ran that line back to the top of the fuel tank and put a fitting in the tank to connect it. Make sure its secure had a guy his fell off and fuel was coming out all over the place. I didn't like that so with the last clone I put a hose fitting in the rocker cover and use that for the pulse and no problems with it. I should convert the other one but I might change the carb on it anyway and new carb wont care about pressure.
By stock tank you mean the yamaha cart tank right, I assume you do. A few people put clones in with the clone tank still on it, pretty small tank though. |

Re: Yamaha Motor upgrade to 18 HP
I bumped up my thread on the tempo fuel gauge in the yamaha gas section that has a pic of the fitting in the tank top.
