Clone rocker arm clatter
When I first installed my early (may 2014) VC 460 the valve train clatter was very noticeable over the Yamaha G 14 stocker. I then went to stud mounted billet rockers with the 1.3 ratio with the ersatz stud girdle. 3 things became instantly obvious. 1 Was the ting ting of the clatter of the stock rockers was gone. 2 A lot more top end. 3 The compression release worked much better for easier starting. My latest upgrade consisted of adding NR racing shaft mounted billet roller rockers along with an Aussie Speed cast aluminium rocker cover. This combination really makes the valve train VERY quiet. In fact you just hear a very whispered whoosh whoosh that is eerie compared to the normal clone valve clatter. So if you want a REALLY quiet clone and have the cash this is the road to take with the performance boost as a bonus.

Re: Clone rocker arm clatter
I just broke down and ordered the finned valve cover from Small Town Speed. I like your review about how quiet yours is. I'm also concerned about the rocker arm clearance. I had a bunch of ebay bucks so I got a good deal on it.

Re: Clone rocker arm clatter
You will like it. I also changed the mounting from a bolt to a stud in the head with a nyloc nut on top with a steel backed neoprene washer for sealing.

Re: Clone rocker arm clatter
That's a cool idea. I have a selection of chrome acorn nuts that might work. I'll make a stud out of a long metric bolt and thread the top for 1/4-20. Thanks Ray

Re: Clone rocker arm clatter
AND no fooling around trying to get a leak proof seal. I did not notch the valve cover and ground down the locator bump on the head and use the pronounced lip on the valve cover for alignment. Did you get the as cast version or for the polished unit ? I spoke to Cory at smalltown about mounting options. He is a gearhead as you would expect. Looks like you just got one. It appears that he has shut his Ebay site down.
