Default Yamaha g2 13hp

HI I had recently purchased a new predator 13hp 420cc from harbor fright. I installed it in my g2., made custom exhaust. Maintained the stock breather and carb for best reliability. I flipped the choke lever bumped the key and it started right up. Let it warm up to temp and went for a ride. The clutching is perfect on this thing. But my problem is Evan after its warm it just does not want to fire. If I choke it it will fire up emediatly. This problem is consistent will never fire unless I bump the key 10 times and it hesitates then starts idling. I'm lost considering this motor only has 20 mins. On it? Doesn't matter the engine temp it just does not want to fire unless I choke it? Thanks for any help.

You are probably too lean with the custom exhaust. Best solution get an adjustable main jet. Another solution open up the main jet. Also is the idle jet been made to get at ?

No idle jet anywhere insight lol. I can get at the throttle adjustment. But that does not help me. I could try and open the main up a touch. It's like it dead cranks until you choke it like a massive vaccum leak. But I would assume that's not it because the engine brand new??

Even if you don't change the intake/exhaust they are lean and wont idle slow. You need to richen up the main a little and drill the plug out of the idle jet screw, its next to the carb stud and spacer. Though you should have stock clone carb on there I hope you mean.

I ran the stock airbox until I built another one, I just cut the hose into 2 90s and used a piece of I think 1.5" pvc from the carb to the cart airbox. I did have the better airbox on the clone with the paper filter above the carb, took that off and put hose on where filter was. Once I built another airbox out of a car, I had to richen up the main a lot. Stock clone does work well with the stock yami clutches, they run real nice.

Then you have full flow to the carb and good exhaust you will need to open up the main some. When you want it to start good and idle slow, you have to adjust the idle mix. Google the idle mix screw for images you will see it on side there at edge of carb. Either they put a plug over it in hole you drill carefully then pull it out, or they break off the screw in there you have to dremel a slot in it and heat with a solder gun (its loctited) to get it out. You can buy new ones on ebay and so on. If you turn it out and still not enough you have to pull the plug under the idle speed screw and the idle jet is in that thing, enlarge it tiny amount I put a wire through it and sawed on it. That jet limits what the mix screw gets. Of course the main is in the bowl on the bottom, it mostly affects half throttle and up. Or you can buy a vegas carb the idle jet is in there like it should be.

You need to access this screw. It may be covered with a plastic cap -- it could have a plug over it. It is right next to the black plastic insulator block. Do not pull the little plug that is second in line with the screw. Removing it will destroy the carburetor.
Once you get to the screw turn it counterclockwise 1/8 of a turn at a time and see if you can improve the idle. Also you may want to get a free flow air filter now that you have a custom exhaust.

Thanks so much for your guys help it has a yamaha clutch from the drive. Team clutch with a red g force spring in it. The secondary is stock and the belt is very wide came off a snowmobile. I thing 1 3/8. So it sticks out of the secondary about 1/2 inch or so lol. At first I didn't think it would shift out all the way but it does and this thing is a torque monster out of the hole and all the way to the top well over 35 mph. Just want it to idle properly. U will try to find the idle air control plug but my motor is different than the one in the pic? I imagine it's the plug closest to the spacer on the head? At about 10 or 2 a clock? And I have jet drills so I am going to open up the main a touch. The thing about switching. To a different breather is that the carb is not round on the end it is flanged so that it get Sam witches and tightend to the air box. Or I would change the filter maybe a future project made several flanges with good luck. Thanks again guys

The picture is of a VC 460. The carburetors are similar in appearance. I'm not sure how they cover the screw on the 420. If all else fails there's http://www.vegascarts.com/adjustable.../tunedcarb.htm
