2002 Polaris 325cc 4 stroke or 420 clone
I'm currently shopping for a 420 clone for my g2. I'm planning to grab a 420 at the end of this week but I just came across a whole running 2002 Polaris trail boss 325 4x2 on the local Craig's list (Kijiji) for around the price of a new clone. The 325 has a CVT clutch already attached, 200 watt charge system, electric start, full pressure oil system with oil cooler, etc.
Would any of you guys choose the 325 over a stock 420 clone? Yes or no, why or why not? The biggest concern with the 325 Polaris would be cooling since it only has an oil cooler and it would enclosed under the seat. |

Re: 2002 Polaris 325cc 4 stroke or 420 clone
The polaris likely, because it has more power I would guess. The new one has 30hp though that on may not. It would take way over double the cost to get 30hp from a clone 420, likely over triple that $300. Well lifans were on sale for $259 for a 420 at home depot online. True the clone would be new, that is a point for it. Guess it depends on what you want out of the cart, I'm really happy with my clone because I do everything with the cart from trails to yard work and it does it all pretty well and for cheap. But hey a cart with a atv motor sounds really sweet in particular if you run trails.

Re: 2002 Polaris 325cc 4 stroke or 420 clone
Hmm. I've been leaning towards the 325 Polaris. Asking price is $300. Complete quad but the transmission is bad. Comes with a set of rims with tires. Front rims are 4 x 156mm which would fit my Polaris front suspension and even better the rear rims are 4 x 4" which would fit the golf cart bolt pattern but give me a whole bunch of offset to give me room for larger tires.
If the motor runs and doesn't smoke I'll buy it. Main purpose of my golf cart is hauling heavy stuff with a garden trailer on very hilly often muddy terrain with occasional rips down an old railroad bed. |

That could be a great deal, though I am sure more to rebuild if it needs that. The clones are cheap but they are not a atv engine. Plus you would get some good parts, let us know what you find.

Just to finish this thread, I ended up buying a standard 390 clone. It was too cheap to pass up. Rest of the story will be in my build thread.

Great choice, like I said you end up with a new engine and it nicely replaces the stock one without re engineering the whole cart. And they are cheap, and you can modify them to over 30hp if you really want to.
