Sprocket Questions
I am building a early 2000s EZ GO TXT with a 6.5HP Predator and TAV2 clone. There's a few questions I have:
I have read that the rear end is geared 12.44:1 or around there so a smaller sprocket on the rear differential and a larger sprocket on the TAV2. I've found Type B sprockets for 40/41 but not Type C. I know the TAV2 comes with a Type C sprocket. a. Can I use Type B sprockets or C sprockets only? b. What has been a successful sprocket combination for this setup? c. I've read the sprocket for the 19 spline rear end is a 1"bore. Is this true, if not what is the correct measurement? |

Re: Sprocket Questions
That is typical cart trans gearing. I'd say be careful of gearing because stock carts are 9-11hp. Most CVT run 1:1 or .9 overdrive final ratio. There are some threads here on using 6.5hp clones and tav2, you will have to search for them, they do talk about the sprockets and what ones they used.

Re: Sprocket Questions
No insult intended here, but I feel you will be greatly disappointed with 6.5hp, especially if you encounter hills, haul passengers, tow or do anything that will put a load on the cart.

Re: Sprocket Questions
I think I've found some answers and please correct me if I'm wrong.
It seems like from some videos and threads, a Type B sprocket will work as long as the sprocket on the TAV2 has more teeth than the sprocket on the differential. As far as a 6.5 being too small, the max speed where it's being driven is 15 MPH. As long as the cart bumps 15-16 MPH in a pretty flat area, I'm happy. If it doesn't work as intended, I'll move it into something else and put a larger engine in. |

Re: Sprocket Questions
Sorry but with the limited information you've supplied it's hard to give you any real answer. I do know that the cart had an engine that was about 2x the displacement and it moved the cart at about 15 mph. It may be hard for your little engine to do what you want.

Re: Sprocket Questions
If you are on flat ground, pavement, it will run you along. You can tweak the motor for up to 8hp just about all stock yet, for little cost.
What I meant is you may want to gear it down a little from what the cart had stock, that will help it out. You lose a little speed but it gives more power. You could shoot for 14:1 cvt overall ratio for example. They are right the 390-420 clone has a lot more torque to move a heavy cart, they work a lot better, actually more power than stock cart engines which are right about 10hp. |

Re: Sprocket Questions
Intake, exhaust, new carb, billet rod, head swap, governor removal is all in due time for a future go kart project and this cart will get a 22 HP. I don't have a lot of experience with either except working on cars for a living. This is more of a learning experience and I'll be tickled if it goes forward without blowing up.

Re: Sprocket Questions
If you work on cars you can do this one handed.
