Default VC 460 Muffler

I put a walker 17862 muffler on my DS with the VC 460 engine. Its still somewhat loud but not nearly as loud as the stock muffler that came with the kit. You can still hear that this engine has some kind of real honest to goodness power, its a thumper for sure. So far everyone who has heard it give me a big thumbs up. At 4100 rpms I'm going 26 mph. Plenty fast enough for this old man.

I'm loving my 460 engine. If there is a better big block for a golf cart I haven't seen it yet. IMHO

As a bonus so far it seems as its not going to burn any more fuel than the old flathead engine did.

Hope everyone has a wonderful 4th of July holiday.

They do not burn more fuel until you go faster than you used to, then they will burn a little more. Really I think a new motor is fair amount more efficient just because its new and old motor was worn out, but if you are like me you like the loud pedal here and there lol.

If I knew how I'd make this a smaller photo but as of right now I don't know how to do that.

I had a 1 inch diameter 2 inch radius elbow from another engine that I used to connect the muffler to the exhaust pipe from the kit.

I've got about 15 hours on the engine as of now. I've changed the oil something like 5 or 6 maybe 7 times and its coming out with very little sparklies. This afternoon I took it on a 5 plus mile run and on my way back home I briefly ran it up to 5000 rpms and at that I was traveling at 37 mph and this was on a small incline. This last oil change I put mobil1 10w30 in it as I figure its as broke in as its going to get. I'll run it for another couple hours or so then change it again. I believe in changing the oil in these small splash lube engines quiet frequently. In fact I'll never put more than 20 hours on this engine without changing the oil. If I can't afford the oil then I can't afford the engine. I do this with all my small engine tools and toys and always have
I put an oil temperature gauge and a cheap digital tach/hour meter so as to keep tabs on the engine.

I plan to add pics to this engine upgrade soon.

Using my non contact temperature gauge the head temperature beside the spark plug was 235 degrees when I got home after my run today. Spark plug is a tan color like its running good, not too rich nor too lean, just right.

The old kholers used to say 25hr oil change with straight 30w for summer temps. Muffler looks nice, bet you hardly see it.

Thx

If it can't look good I won't do it
Having said that I will do a hack job to get me going so as to get a feel for what I want but it will be at the top of my list to fix. Looks is everything to me when I do things. Good enough is never good enough if that makes any sense

That muffler was heavy and the way I had it supported made for a break off. Luckily it broke at the pipe elbow going into the muffler on the left side.
I went to Tractor Supply and bought a muffler for a small Allis Chalmers tractor that is a straight though design and mounted it directly to the header pipe right after the bracket from the header that bolts to the engine. Then I made a bracket that fastens to the bolts that hold the engine to the base and now the muffler, the header and the Engine all move as one. Sounds pretty good too. much less over all weight and mass so I think I have the muffler problem solved now.

Its a much cleaner looking set up now
