How do you track your hours?
How do you gentlemen keep track of the hours on your VC460? I wanted better tracking of my engine hours so I decided to install a true hour meter. I bought a quartz unit off of E bay that covers 10th's of an hour. This will make it easier now for oil changes. Pretty simple - hook it to keyed 12 volts and watch it do the job.

Re: How do you track your hours?
Runleader makes this model I installed on a Yamaha (< 10$).
There is a battery inside (still running after 2 years, golf cart used every day as main vehicle) and just a cable to twist around the spark plug cable and bingo! It indicates the rpm when the engine is running and after each stop, the hourmeter... At least these hours are real "running hours", not when the time the key switch was on... |

I use the cheap digital tach. Bought it in 2009 and it is still working.

Re: How do you track your hours?
I know some operators have Equus tachometers -- I do. I needed a better way to track my hours for oil changes -- keeping track of mileage sucks cause it's estimated. I have the same style tach sformal shows on my racing mower. Tachometer when it runs and hour meter when its not.

Re: How do you track your hours?
I use a Tiny-Tach. It tracks hours and displays rpm's. When the engine is running it will show the rpm's, and when the engine is off it will show hours and minutes. Uses one wire to the coil and that's it.

Re: How do you track your hours?
Keeping track of my hours electronically beats pencil and paper. During my break in period I'm using cheap STP SAE30 cause I'm dumping so often, lots more to go.

Re: How do you track your hours?
I use this little guy. Seems to be working well so far. Only complaint is that the wire wasn't long enough to wrap on spark plug and route all the way under the cart and back up to mount it on the dash. But it does work pretty good to monitor rpms and hours. The tach isn't instant but good enough just to monitor rpms. My only concern with a key'd meter is that I know somebody that left a key turned to "on" on a lawnmower once and it ran the hour meter up 40 hours when it was still new.
