Question Throttle hookup on -3 hp clone?

I have found a champion 13hp clone engine... to put in my '86 CC.

I've looked into the adapter from straight to taper for my clutch....

The only other thing I'm not sure about is how to hook up the throttle.... the clone motor has a metal lever that must be moved by hand...
Is this disconnected and linkage/cable attached directly to carb?

Any help (or even better, PICTURES) would be greatly appreciated.

It depends on if you keep the governor on the new engine or not, many take them off but some keep them.

So, if the throttle arm and governor is taken off....the throttle cable/linkage just goes to the carb?
A picture of one someone has rigged would be great...

Thanks

With mine I took the governor arm and used it to put the rod in, then drilled more holes for it to adjust, and drilled holes to hook the cable and mount it on a bolt to pivot. I put on a plate some put it on the motor again. I put a return spring on it. I took the cover off the block and removed the governor and rod, I tapped the hole 3/8 and put a set screw in (only tap it part way so it tightens up) to plug it. Some use that for the arm, but mine looked like the crank could hit it, or you could cut it shorter.

If you remove the governor you can buy some parts cheap and make it run a lot better, like HD springs and timing key, now Vegas has some shaft rockers cheap. Then it will rev more and your top speed will be higher, without hurting it, long as you don't go down a road WOT for long time. And always break them in I tell people 10 gal gas before you scream it up there to top speed.

If you don't care about going fast just put an arm on there and hook it up just like it is. I'd still remove the governor and use the cart governor. I run a stock clone cart also, its just like stock but lot more power. It goes 2mph faster than stock did, but gets there much faster. It does 31 gps on 22 tires. The airbox/muffler are from cars and the carb was jetted is all.

Woo Hoo.... scored a Honda GX390 today....
Complete, Clean with low hours, $300..
Starts and runs like a top. Have the shaft adapter on its way from eBay ..

Just need to figure out how to do the throttle and where/how to hook up the original CC governor rod.

Sho305,

Any chance of a couple of pictures of the throttle / governor hookup?

Mine had no governor, I just made an arm from the stock arm so I could hook the rod into it. Now changed the carb and its all gone, but have a pic someplace. I made a plate to mount over recoil and had lever for rod, my cart cable hooked on it too.

That's what inm trying to figure out... how/where to make a lever/arm/linkage to use my throttle cable, etc.... engine in not in yet... it's still at work (didn't want to bring it home on my motorcycle...lol)
Also need to fab/modify my original starter/Gen bracket to go on the Honda....
I'm going to pull the carb tomorrow and dismantle it/clean it in the ultrasonic cleaner...

You might want to look at my clone throttle thread for one way of doing it.
