VC 460? Help

Well I have a lot of questions here and wanting some opinions. I currently have a 99 Club Car Ds with Fe290 in it. I use it strictly for golf at this time. I just ended up with a 85 Club car ds with KF82 flathead. I plan on getting rid of one or the other at the end up the day. The flathead engine is basically junk so need to figure out engine stuff mainly. I guess some of my main questions are what are peoples opinions are on taking the flathead out and and fixing up the 85 the way I want it and keeping that and selling my 99. Are the VC460 engines going to be way to loud for a golf course environment? I want to put small lift on it and nice wheels. Besides engine is an 85 body much different than a 99. Any thoughts questions or two cents welcome.

I can't answer your cart questions -- but -- the VC 460 is going to be much louder then the stock engine. It's the most used clone big block on the market. It is reliable and easy to work on. I would use the kit Vegas sells for your specific model cart, that way you'll have no big problems. I wouldn't use VC's muffler cause it's a racing muffle and quite loud. It's not big enough to make it quiet, most of us use either a tractor or car muffler to get the noise level down. As far as using it on the golf course -- keep your foot out of it and just putt along -- I think you could use it -- that's just my opinion.

A lot depends on what you are looking for. A v-twin engine low revving engine that will give you good torque and speed up to the 20-30 mph range. A vc460 is a high revving engine that can take you to speeds over 30 mph. It is a racing engine so it is a bit louder but you can tame the sound with a Walker muffler. As long as you didn't go wot you should be able to cruise around a golf course with no issues.
Whatever engine you go with I also recommend an engine install kit from Vegas Carts. They have them for a v-twin and of course their 460 and they make the process easy and painless.

Thanks, I have read all of the thread with Brutal Soldiers cart project. Learning lots. 20-30mph is plenty for what I will be doing with it. Does anyone have a recommended V-twin to put in and is the cost a lot higher to do that?

The only cheap V twin is a predator or used. Otherwise new twin will cost much more than vc460.

There are other single cyl options also. I believe justwondering put a Lifan in her Yamaha using a Vegas Cart kit. IMO the VC460 is the best bang for the buck but if you are looking for something milder there are choices.

I'm an old man of 69 with a bad case of COPD so breathing exhaust fumes is out for me. Once I figured out what was causing a lot of my breathing problems was the exhaust fumes from my old '86 Club Car DS worn out flat head engine I decided it was time for a new engine. After checking prices I decided to go with the Vegas Carts 460 and couldn't be happier with that decision. I've put a couple hundred miles and 60 some odd hours on it so far. Mostly in the woods, hills and valleys of the ozark foothills foraging for mushrooms. Honestly mostly just puttering around being out in the wood enjoying nature.
I bought the kit for the '86 DS and it was fall down easy to install. A few bolts and lifted the rear body off the cart so I could get at everything easily. I took my time and had it all installed in a few days of a few hours a day. back when I was younger I could have installed it in one day no problem but this thing called Age caught up with me so I move a lot slower now. I have to say though that installing the kit was the most fun I'd had in a while. I enjoy that kind of thing.
If I had it to do again I'd go the same route. Vegas Carts have a good product. I went ahead and bought the kit with the new clutches and wider belt while I was it as my old ones were showing their age.
I'm using a muffler for an older Allis Chalmers B tractor on mine now and at puttering around speeds as you'll be going on the golf course its barely louder than stock but when you're traveling on down the road its a tad louder but not too loud. In fact everyone tells me that my cart sounds awesome. You can definitely hear that theres some horsepower under the seat. Feel it too when you mash that loud pedal :-)

Thanks everyone this is all good information. I really like the sounds and reviews of the Vegas carts option. Is the the Vegas cart a 2 stroke or 4 stroke. I assumed it was four but I thought I saw somewhere it was two. I’m not to interested in having to mix fuel for my golf cart. Can’t wait to start the project just trying to get an idea what I’m all going to do as I want a small lift as well...... never mind stupid question i wasn't thinking

Does anyone have the walker muffler installed on a 460. Would be very curious to hear that. I found a couple videos online but they weren't very good.
