Default Basic Predator 420cc Swap Questions

Hey Guys,

I just picked up a Carryall 1 (1994) with an FE290 that is locked up. I haven't looked into it at all, but I am assuming it will need some major work. I am on the fence about a rebuild vs. repower. Not looking to make a hot rod, just something that works.

I am curious about putting in a Predator 13HP/420cc motor in its place. As I understand engine rotation on this year cart will match up. I am not scared of fabrication work, just want to make sure I have the basics covered.

- Will the shaft mate up with the existing clutch assembly or is there something that needs to be done?

- Is the easiest thing to do to keep the existing starter motor/generator? Is there anything I should know about adapting this?

Wow already out of questions I think! Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks guys!

Take a look at the most recent clone swap threads. There are a couple recent documented builds that have done a great job at covering the details. They will explain the things you will want to prepare for.

Most of the clones do not charge much at all, unless you get a specific one its better/easier to use the generator. You keep it on there just the way it is usually.

You get a steel adapter for the 1" crank it makes a taper cart clutch fit on it. If your clutch is shot now is the time to replace it, but if you keep the gen you need a clutch with a pulley or Vegas has a pulley that goes behind the clutch. Some like to swap to the 1 3/16 belt which is what most things are but CC is not. Way more sizes of belt in that size too. You may have to do something with the driven clutch if you change over.

The 420 will have more power for sure, speeds about the same. You can get HD springs/timing key/even roller rockers and pushrods really cheap for them, then you can pull the governor and run a lot more speed, if you want to.

I have a 90 ccds that I wanna swap.
I sold the engine and stock engine clutch.
I figured I’d use the comet 780 engine clutch
But then I forgot about the rear clutch needs to match the wider belt

Look at vegascarts installation instructions for your cart. It shows what all is involved.

my 2000 club car fe 290 motor needs rebuilt and is going to cost an arm and a leg. So im thinking about the predator 420 but cant find any solid examples of one in a club car. do I have to replace the drive or driven clutch? Can I use starter generator? Will the cart start with the gas pedal? does it mount ok or am I going to have to fab motor mounts ect.
